Motherhood #voiceofmums

Motherhood.

sleeping babyIt means so many different things to different people. For me, when I think of motherhood, I think of that moment when I first held each child in my arms, and it felt like something physically rearranged inside me to fit this new person into my heart.

It’s a powerful emotion. At that moment you aren’t really thinking of what is coming in the future. You’re just in awe of the reality of having made life. (Are you going to tell me that isn’t awesome? I look at these people around me, my eldest daughter who is the same height as me, and I find it difficult to understand how that works. She came from me? Really?)

Of course, the reality is that the future is complicated. And messy. And sometimes downright unpleasant 😉 (who else remembers the heartfelt shock of that very first nappy? It was black. And sticky. (Sorry if you’ve yet to encounter this))

Here’s an unusual thing, me actually talking, in a video, about motherhood.

Recovered? Sorry.

Little children are wonderful. Mostly. They’ve got so many firsts in front of them. First step. First word. First cold. First snotty horrid nose. (Snotty horrid noses are one of my least favourite bits of parenting. I like them even less than I like nasty nappies. At least nappies are mostly contained. When you’re lucky, anyway.)

There are, of course, things to make parts of parenting easier. Like Cusson’s Comfort to Snuffly Noses. Washing machines. Velcro 😉 What are your top tips of things that made parenting easier? Mine would have to be a sling, for a child who was part limpet, it made life livable, rather than just easier. Cuddly, snuggly, stretchy sling for a newborn, lovely cotton wrap or carrier for a toddler and you can get on with life so much easier than you can with a buggy, honest.

Now, if only Cussons could launch something to deal with teenage hormones, we’d be sorted 😉

Disclosure: I have been compensated for my time producing this video and post. Although I don’t think anyone expected it to take so very to upload. A minute for every second in fact.

  1. That is lovely!
But that video takes as long to play as it did to upload for you.

    1. What? Aargh. It said on YouTube it was only a minute which is all it’s supposed to be. I’ll investigate, thanks.
