Heh… don’t ask me, I thought it was one of those “looks like a turtleneck when you wear it under a jumper but really it stops at your nipples” things. Bet this comment is moderated for having nipples in it too. Twice now! LOL
You’re allowed to have nipples on this blog Deb, as many as you like.
I think that a turtle neck has to be folded over (because it’s too tall until you do so). A mock turtle neck looks like a turtle neck but only comes up as far as the turtle neck would once it had been folded over (the sticky-up bit is only half as high as in a turtle neck). Lands End catalogues are sometimes surprisingly educational 🙂
A mock turtle neck is a tee-shirt with a collar that goes half-way up your neck, but does not get turned over.

No, a polo neck gets folded over, a turtle neck just stops – just like the ones in those pictures! Never heard that before – do you think it’s an American thing?
Deb, I think with this one it only works if you have mock nipples.
Alison–the mock turtleneck in the photo does not get turned over–here’s a better picture. A polo shirt is generally always a v-neck.

Mock-turtlenecks are American. What Deb is describing used to be called a ‘Dickie’ top–http://www.hullsoffrankfort.com/dickieart/05mock.jpg
Ah, yes, an American thing 😉 Yup, a turtleneck is not folded over, like the mock TN. A polo neck jumper (hmmm, perhaps I should say sweater, isn’t a jumper some kind of pinafore dress?) is different to a polo shirt (which is a polo shirt here too!); it has a long tubular neck which is folded over but still comes a long way up your neck.
Jax – LOL – nipples nipples nipples!
Tim – mock nipples? Ewwwww…
Elizabeth – a polo-shirt and a polo-neck are two different things in this part of the world. Never heard of a dickie!
You can buy the opposite to mock-nipples – mock-no-nipples – for when you’re braless and don’t want to show through your top.
You can also get nipples for those who have had their breasts removed.
Mock-no-nipples, but wouldn’t that be…. nipples?
😕
