Moping about

Was woken by screaming on Thursday morning, never a good start to the day. Came down to discover the children hiding in the hall, refusing to go into the kitchen as they’d “seen something.” The something in question turned out to be a moth, so I was even less impressed.

They developed these phobias at school, as two of the most central members of staff had spider/ flying things phobias respectively. Small in particular is now fairly terrified of all small insects, despite both Tim and I modelling not terrified behaviour. I don’t know what I can do about it past that, and I confess to being less than understanding having been rousted out of bed early and precipitately.

That past I struggled to get myself out of a grotty mood all day. My achievements were limited to getting some washing in off the line after it had dried after being rained on, and packing up a few bits to take to the post, but not actually getting to the post.

Also spent a lot of time perusing YouCanMakeThis.com
Download Today – Make It Today!
to find patterns for Big. Shopping for clothing for her is an absolute nightmare – she doesn’t do waists, won’t wear jeans, and itchy labels and seams are a complete no no. Kind of hoping if we make her some clothes between us we can avoid some of the issues. We went through some of the patterns together last night, and she liked quite a lot of the ones I’d wishlisted, so we decided that we’d start by making a free doll pattern (that I now can’t find on the site to link to, weird) for a simple shirt, that we can then try scaling up to make for her, which will also test her tolerance to gathered elasticated neck lines.

Both of them moshi monstered and watched far too much TV – think it was better when it was broken tbh. They discovered that their library books, that I’ve been nagging them about for a week are overdue, so they both now owe money at the library. (Didn’t tell them that mine were a day over as well, so I owe even more 🙁 )

Then at bedtime the day turned around when I got a call from Bil to say they are coming to visit on Friday. That’s tomorrow in terms of this blogpost, and today in terms of reality. (Confused yet? You will be.) He wanted to know if there is room to pitch his 7m by 3m tent in the garden, so Tim went out into the darkening night with a tape measure, and thinks it should be possible. I’m a bit worried about the sticky out branches, of one of the rather overgrown trees, but I suppose a set of secateurs will sort that out. Going to annoy the birds as the only bit quite long enough is where we usually feed them 🙂

Small thrilled at the idea of seeing Princess, and Bil is bringing his 10 year old nephew as well, so should be a fairly busy weekend. Hope they bring their beach wear.

Right, must go get myself organised, I’ve quite a bit of tidying and sorting to do if there’s another 4 ppl going to be around this weekend!

  1. Hope you have a good weekend.
Awlful that your library charges for overdue books for children, ours doesn’t. Good job because I would be paying them something everytime we go. I never managed to take them back anyhere near the date.
