This is how I got 10 minutes to sweep the kitchen floor. I sat her in her chair with two small bowls, some sugar puffs and a spoon, and showed her transferring between bowls. She was engrossed. Sure, some of them went in her mouth, and some of them went on the floor, but that just meant this next.

I love it. Why has it never occured to me that my 15 m.o. can do such things? Probably because these days he loves to bang things 🙂

There is a reason for that. It’s to isolate the task, and allow for specific practice. You are supposed to demonstrate the action required. And there is a sense of achievement when they’ve undone and done all the buttons. I know it’s odd, but it works. (Oh to receive Montessori equipment! We make do here sadly.)
Oh I’m going to traipse your blog for more of these tips… My 1 yo needs games like this to let me get on with things 😉
