Trying morning on Tuesday with Big, who is well into the pre teen hormone surge and seems determined to exploit it. Children argued extensively over DVDs – beginning to wish I hadn’t bothered bringing the box in from the garage, I thought they’d be pleased to see it. Neither of them wanted to attend the midwife appt, which was probably good as in the end she was running 30 minutes late, but that did mean I got to spend some time working on the latest crochet ufo.
Then it turned out to be a different midwife. Who didn’t introduce herself, unless I just wasn’t paying attention (very possible!). Everything is fine, my blood pressure, height of womb, baby heartrate and so on, and the one small problem I’m having of acid indigestion will be solved when I go pick up my gaviscon prescription. She was a little confused as to why my notes currently say consultant led, but I explained the background and that the consultant seemed happy for me to be midwife led, apart from the growth scan she’s booked for 28 weeks. So will it be a home birth? Yes, I said, and she replied oh goody! Very different attitude to last time around, where they put every obstacle they could in my way!
So that’s that for another three weeks, then I should see my original midwife again, although the team of four work closely together I’m told, so it’s good to have met another, as it could be any of them on the doorstep in November.
Back home and commenced chivvying the children to find their library books. Recommenced as I had mentioned it before I went out, but that obviously fell on deaf ears. Took absolutely ages for all books to be located, by which time we were too close to swimming lessons for me to want to go to the library (on way to swimming pool) then come back for swimming stuff before going out again, so instead we loaded up the swimming stuff at the same time.
Or I thought we had. Turned out that all Small had put in his bag were his goggles and swim hat. Could have been an interesting swimming lesson!
Relatively brief stop at library as they had books (renewed online) still to read. I dropped mine off, mainly unread, and picked up Knit Two on the principle that I enjoyed the first one. Also picked up Fool’s Fate
which I’d ordered having read the first one, but the second one hasn’t come in yet, rather annoying. Came to regret picking it up as it’s seriously thick and heavy, so carrying it to the swimming pool and then around the swimming pool and then home again was less than amusing.
Down to the pool and we were very early, so the kids ate their bananas sitting in the sun outside, while I filled in Small’s coastal card application form. That gets him cheaper lessons, while paying for the lessons by direct debit (cheaper again than cash) gets us free public swimming as well. Bonus. Once I get my coastal card, a swimming session for us will come down to £3 for the three of us. Rather better than the £8.55 it has been costing.
Once inside, waiting to hand over the application form, Small caught sight of the softplay, and wanted to know if we could play tonight. Unfortunately not, which meant he went on loud sitdown strike in the middle of the lobby area. Fantastic. Really enjoyed the bit where he leant on my foot as well, just to make his point. Not quite sure how I distracted him out of it, but we did, and made it to poolside ready for his lesson with Denise. Who wasn’t there and was replaced by some young bloke instead.
Never mind, the lesson went well, although I did see the teacher having to explain things to Small separately more than once. He tried hard though, and as I met him said it was fantastic, and he could wait for the next one. Result!
Slight mix up between toilets, collection point and drop off point meant that Big was scuttling after her group as they headed off into the pool, but she got there and had a good lesson too, while Small and I sat in the cafe area. The changeover bit is a bit complicated, but no doubt it will get easier with practice.
Home for a late tea and them off to bed, and me not long behind them, knowing that we had a long day arranged for today.
