Middle of the week and I'm falling behind again!

My parents came at the weekend. It was good to see them. We had takeout Friday night, a quiet Sat morning, a stroll to a beachside cafe and lunch before eating icecream on the front. It’s very odd living at a resort – we rarely do resort type things, and there’s a sort of jolt to seeing the place through a visitor’s eyes.

Sunday we went to the library to finish off the Reading challenge thing. Which means the kids each read over 4 books in a week. Seems to have kickstarted Small’s reading again, which is good. He really goes in fits and starts and although he loves things like Mr Gum he forgets about them every now and then.

Oh, and the other thing they did at the weekend was write. They both kept on with their books, and showed them to Grandma and Grandad. Which caused some raised eyebrows as it appears that one of the sequels (which I hadn’t read) is rather gorier than the original (). So had a chat with Small about appropriate language. Although perhaps that should have been more about appropriate audience. Guess Grandma is never going to be all that into superhero stories, gory or not!

Sunday afternoon we had a flying visit from Em, which was nice. O and soa are beginning to notice each other as ppl which is so much fun to watch. And I did blog my activity report on Sunday evening.

Oh, and was it Sunday that we finally took the tent down? That’s been airing for 3 weeks. big oops there!

Monday, why can’t I remember Monday? Oh yes. Day was much of a muchness with a reasonable amount of computing in it and we went out to the secondhand games shop, which turns out not to be open on a Monday. Which led to a very disappointed and therefore rather angry Small 🙁 He doesn’t deal well with negative emotions. Took Big down for her fun swim in the car so that I could shop at Lidl. Then had to drive home for a payment card 🙁 So much for two journeys in one and saving fuel! She had a reasonable swim I think though, even though there weren’t many ppl there that she knows.

Tuesday we organised to go to the games shop on the way to swimming. First time we’ve been early to swimming in about 2 months! Small in only his third green hat lesson was taken to jump in the deep end. I could barely watch – to begin with as the rest of the group were going round to join the back of the line he kept hiding behind ppl, but the stand in teacher was wise to that one and got him to the edge. I wasn’t sure he was going to do it, but after an agonising moment’s pause he did, and boy was he so pleased with himself at the end of the lesson! (I think I may have missed a second jump in while walking round from the cafe area to the poolside.)

Oh, and Tuesday morning I did a run. More of a run. I got bored of my round the block trudge, so I did a longer round the block and really amazed myself by being able to run twice the distance I have been running. From 0.4 of a mile up to 0.8 of a mile, and I ran for over 8 minutes. *And* I was still upright and able to talk at the end of it. Although all I said was “open the door” (we hadn’t taken the latch off!)

Well impressed.

So that’s our week so far. Not including Weds, but I’m over 600 words and it’s nearly 1 am, so that will have to do. Will add pics tomorrow when I find the camera. And maybe do a focus on soa post, as I don’t think I’m mentioning her nearly enough atm 🙂

  1. I think I’ve been away from the UK for too long, as I was completely surprised that you went to the library on Sunday. Here they are only open Monday to Friday in the afternoons.
I always seem to remember to take books back in the morning, and then forget by the afternoon….
