Small child using Reading Eggs on P

Make learning to read child's play with Reading Eggs

Often, one of the biggest fears new home educators express is how they will help their child learn to read. There’s so much about about phonics, the right way to learn, the wrong way, which books to use, what order to do it all in, it can get really confusing.

With Smallest, and now Tigerboy I’m making life easy for myself by using Reading Eggs online as part of the learning to read process. (There are also lots of reading books around, plenty of sounding things out when we’re out and about and some emergent writing in his drawing time.) We use it on the PC in the living room, and I hover about to be helpful, although it’s so well set up that once I’ve done the login, Tigerboy manages it himself. In fact he often tells me to go away so,that he can do it “by myself”.

Right now, instead of the usual two weeks free trial, Reading Eggs are offering a five week trial, ideal for you to see whether it suits your little one in the same way it does mine. And to help spread the news about the extended trial, I’m pleased to say I’m hosting a giveaway of a one year subscription to the Reading Eggs service. 1. I think it would be a tie between “The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark” and “The Ha Ha Bonk Book”. There are pictures of me reading both of them before I started school, and one particular picture where I can physically remember that moment. I’ve still got my copies of both, but have bought new ones for my daughter.

  2. I loved reading Tolkiens “The Hobbit” when I was 6

  17. Not an entry, for obvious reasons, but I just wanted to say what a fabulous idea this product is and not just for home educators! I actually taught myself to read before I went to school, but my mum raised us all to have a huge appreciation of reading for fun and I think it’s stood all of us in really good stead.
