This afternoon I got the afternoon I’d been looking forward to having yesterday, iyswim 😉 I dragged myself out of bed and mediated between screaming children (Big had decided to get dressed, which meant Small wanted to get dressed, but Big wasn’t doing it right (he doesn’t like having his ears touched much)) then breakfasted and belted off to shop. Oh, that was after I set Small up on the computer – and discovered he’s reset the background on his profile to the CBeebies background! Looks quite good actually 😉 Got back at just around 12, and sweettalked Tim into removing the defunct hedgehog from the road outside our drive.
Was attempting forlornly to organise our miniscule kitchen when Kris and her girls arrived, with raspberry plants for me, some chitting potatoes, and a handful of leeks and parsnips fresh from her allotment. Kris, we didn’t work out money! And then she made herself at home in my kitchen and turned out bacon and egg sandwiches (some together, some separate 😉 ) to feed the ravening hordes, while I pottered and we chatted. Which wasn’t quite my plan, I’d meant to treat her to homecooked food, but she assures me she likes cooking, and on Melrose evidence, we’d have to believe her 😀
Then we got to spend an hour or so sitting and chatting, while Kris played with my new hatloom toys. It was a really lovely way to spend an afternoon – the children all seemed to mix and match with little in the way of fallouts (in fact, I can’t remember any tears at all). And then James and Mudsmom popped in on their way up to Doncaster, so we got to have a cuppa with them too, and drool over houses.
Quiet evening once all our guests had gone – the children watched Bear In The Big Blue House for a while, and played with some learn to read game we’ve had kicking about for ages. Small keeps showing off his counting, not sure where he’s picked it up from, but he seems very confident up to three, won’t tell me if he knows any more than that 😀 He seems to be developing in all sorts of directions atm, has suddenly started trying to take clothes on and off himself (Big was completely dressing and undressing herself at this age, so I’m a bit confused with a child completely uninterested in doing this stuff. I’m assuming he’ll get around to it in his own good time, which he seems to be proving atm 🙂 ) as well as the counting and of course the speaking.
Now I’m off to make myself an omelette with a couple of fresh leeks and some rather older mushrooms. Oh, and I’d like you all to welcome a new blogring member too 🙂

I agree, was a truly lovely afternoon. 🙂 Most relaxing and I don’t recall much in the way of tears or tantrums either. The odd minor moment when Big and Myf were having a small disagreement over the tidying up thing… But Small and Piglet seem extremely fond of each other.
Must do it again, and soon. And I’ll figure money out when I remember how to count. 😛
Every one is different in the time they decide they want to do stuff. One of our hardly said anything other than individual words until she was about 2 and then almost overnight spoke in full sentences.
One of the things that has always made parenting very enjoyable for me is seeing the differences in the development schedule/order among them. Really get to see them as individuals that way 🙂
