to Big reading her own bedtime story (Kitty Helps Out (Kitty & Cat Lift the Flap S.)) out loud to Tim ๐
The hands off approach is finally paying dividends. I know she’s cracked it by herself, she knows she’s cracked it by herself, and she is getting more and more adventurous on what she will attempt to read. It’s good.
They’ve had a good week on their first official three day week at school. Yesterday the fire engine came. It had been booked for a couple of weeks back, on a day that they didn’t attend, but got called out instead, so came yesterday. Stopped for a couple of hours, apparently, and they got to sit in the driver’s seat and sound the siren, and aim the hose until they ran out of water, and wear firemen’s helmets. Small, I suspect, was particularly impressed with the helmet. Those of you who know us in real life will have noticed that he’s partial to a bit of headgear ๐
Then they brought home a couple of books each from the firemen too. One is a sort of workbook, sponsored by IKEA of all ppl, with lots of highly educational stuff about hazards around the home, and fire plans, and what to do in an emergency. Marvellous stuff to be doing last thing at night, and completely unrelated to Big coming down in tears two hours later ๐
Small slept well, in A’s hat. He’d come home in this amazing cap thing, blue suede, with a peak (apparently bought specially for an Abba night out). He’d worn it all day, and I took him back to school still wearing it this morning. Yes, still wearing it. A was in stitches when she heard he’d slept in it. He wore it all day today as well, and as we were leaving she said she thought he had better keep it. At which point he took it off and gave it back? Sometimes I don’t understand that child at all.
They are both in bed now. Big has been pried out of one of the many new bargain tops left by Grandma on the back doorstep this evening (don’t know whether I’d forgotten to say that they are in school Thurs now, or whether she’d forgotten me saying it), and Small never really woke up on the way in from the car tonight.
Am hoping for another lovely day tomorrow – I have the afternoon off to pay back some of the overtime I’ve done this week, and we’re going to go over and see Kris, oh and get some shoes for the children. I did feel embarassed dropping them off this morning, with her in her sundress and long black boots!
eta – oh and I forgot. Before the story, I was asked what a herb is. This was a good search

We might well bump into you at Kris’s then! We’re popping over for seeds and plants. As I’m coming from Nikki’s after sorting Lembas stuff I’ll bring that with me!
Sounds like things are going well.
thanks Sarah, that will save me some mileage.

Disagree hugely with the definition of ‘a plant lacking a woody stem’. Anyone who’s ever grown rosemary or sage or southernwood or any of those shrubby herbs will testify – they’re woody!
But that’s just me being pedantic. Was lovely to see you today – we even got to natter a little bit, in between the laundry and the small children. ๐
ps – LMAO at the Google ad on the left for “Sexy Firefighter Singles”.
No, I didn’t click…
But that’s a different defintion of ‘Herb’ Kris. It’s means an ‘Herbaceous’ plant – which just means ‘non permanent woody stem’ of course – hence Herbaceous Perennials.
The use of the term ‘Herb’ to mean the culinary plants is different useage, as yiou say, plenty are not herbaceous
