Kicked out of bed

by the Small!

Was really looking forward to a nap, as I dragged myself out of bed to give them breakfast this morning, and have kept going ever since. So swapped around tonight so that I would put Small down, and Tim would do whatever with Big, and I thought I’d grab a bit of shuteye as Small dozed off. Instead, we looked at Winnie the Pooh for a bit (he likes to just look at the pictures 🙂 ) and then I said it was bedtime and turned the light out so he started bouncing around. I said if he was going to do that I would have to go downstairs and leave him to it, expecting him to point frantically to my place on the bed, telling me to stay there, instead he lay back and waved! Huh, I know when I’m not wanted…. 😉

So, today. As I said, got up and did breakfast, and washing, and washing up. Then took 18 bookbag orders to the not so local post office and did some errands (bought milk, paid in cheque, got hooks and eyes for the doll’s dress I’m making for Big, that sort of thing) and came home for lunch. Rather enjoyed being able to do it all without trying to keep an eye on a rapidly departing toddler.

Home and lunch. Big had already done some english workbook before I went out, but resisted maths. Instead we’ve been arty and crafty – she played on the computer for quite a while, then Small requested painting by the simple expedient of pulling all the painting stuff off the side and onto his head (! ouch) so they painted for a while. Then Big found a sound and music kit so they did that for a bit until she got bored. Small played with jigsaws and Big got the playdough out, then they swapped about for a bit, while I made tea. After tea they played some mad chasing game for a while, then bath and the bed routine.

While I was failing to get my zs in, Big and Tim were playing chess. You’d have to ask him about that though 😉

And now it’s only 25 past 8, I’ve already had tea, I’m absolutely shattered and the evening stretches in front of me. Decisions, decisions, there’s nothing on tv…is it time to break out King Arthur?

  1. go on…

  2. The chess was rather good. Big surprised me, she seems to be able to remember how the pieces move from one game to the next, so that is a start. She tends to look a bit disappointed when we reach checkmate before I have taken all her other pieces, although she is very clear that the point of the game is to protect the king.
King Arthur was a load of old tosh. While I will admit to being partial to a nightly Keira, I thought she was a great deal more alluring in Bend It Like Beckham, which is a much better film all round.
