Just keep sewing

image

Costume day today.

We talked (19)20s dresses. Refitting page jerkins. Worked out how to revive a ruff and discussed how much fabric you need to make one. (Around 10 feet for an average neck, in case you were wondering. And there were sumptuary laws limiting how much you could use. No over ruffing thank you very much.)

The picture above is not a ruff. More of a frill. Probably what I’ll be wearing if I get everything else finished.

And I realised that somewhere along the line, almost without noticing, I’ve become comfortable talking about costume. Suggesting adjustments. Working out patterns for myself if there are none in existence. Not something I’d ever expected to be saying to be honest.

Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks after all 😉

  1. Sewing for me was one that got away sadly. I can mend and shorten but I’d love to be able to make from scratch. Oh well, next life.

  2. I love that you guys make all your own stuff for these events. You are so handy!

needs must Heather. Actually, I’m massively not handy with a sewing needly, but I’m learning. Fast!
