Trying to remember that when I spend time doing arts and crafts and things with my hands I feel better.
It’s hard to remember that when the clouds come in. Somehow tonight I dragged myself out. Paper, felt tips, paint brush and water. And a copy of How to Draw Princesses and Ballerinas (Usborne How to Draw).
Oh, and some children. Arts and crafts and children tend to go well together.
Step by step instructions – first settle your children down with felt tips, paper, water, brushes and so on. Then get stuck in yourself.
My first attempt didn’t quite work out. The thin felt tips didn’t run when water brushed. The shape was OK though. Drawing with felt tips is a bit scary – there’s no rubbing out or going back. Funny though, having to commit to the picture is quite freeing. I might have to experiment further with this.
Using much thicker felt tips, and I got a better shape to the skirt too.
Brushing water over the skirt and the sleeve.
And here’s an atmospheric close up. The colour is a bit off in these shots sadly – but I’m not working on photography, or post fixing today ๐
And here’s the whole picture – I seem to have dislocated her shoulder. Oops.
Finally, with subtle facial features.
The picture from my phone gives you a better idea of the colours I was using. A purple rather than a blue.
It’s not award winning art or anything. But it was fun. And I felt a whole lot better after I was done drawing.
