So oddly enough, today has revolved around Big, much as it should on her birthday I feel 🙂
She let us lie this morning, although I think Tim went down for something or other shortly after alarm time, and then I was brought tea. We did present opening on the bed – she got mainly clothes, though I also sneaked in The World of Jacqueline Wilson (slightly unnerved to read parts of this and discover Jacqueline Wilson is the same age as my mother, somehow doesn’t seem plausible) and a Sarah Jane Adventures – Sonic Lipstick Gift Set
. Small didn’t miss out completely, as tradition dictates he received a present too, he got his own copy of Sideways Stories from Wayside School
. He was very happy.
She was very happy with all her presents, and then retired downstairs to watch TV. Later on we discussed what she wanted for her birthday tea and she decided on traditional party food including mini sausages, so after lunch, we went out and shopped for party food.
Shortly after we got back, the offthepathers joined us (minus Jan) and the children disappeared upstairs. A little while later Jan arrived too, and we did food, and chat, and children played. It was a very pleasant evening, and Big seemed to thoroughly enjoy her birthday evening. We only ate one cake, so the one that got bought today is coming with us on holiday (fair warning!) and I’m guessing she’s going to want to do something vaguely birthday like on Monday as well, but given as we discussed CP as being at least in part her birthday treat, seems only fair.
J & J scooped their children up and took them home some time after 8 and ours went up to bed. Small has read the first chapter of his new book, and Big started one out of her present from J & J, Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare Stories). I’m avoiding thinking about the state of the kitchen, and not listening to the news or doing my maths. Hohum. I’ll try and come back with pictures tomorrow.
