It's elementary, my dear watson.

Sometime today it was decided that I will be taking all elementary classes. I have a mammoth amount of material to familiarise myself with in a hurry, but fortunately, lots of experience with making it up as I go along 😉

We had a lovely day today, apart from the rain. Which really did rain. Consequently, when we went out to Brownies and discovered it’s not on til next week (at least, I assume that’s why the door was locked) we headed on to Asda to get Big some wellies. Shock horror, she now has her first pair of footwear purchased in the adult shoe dept – not quite sure how she’s gone from a size 1 1/2 before summer to needing a size 3 wellie, but I’m not complaining that much – I can now take her to my mother’s and let her raid the boxes under the wardrobe. We’d better do it soon, the way she’s growing (Big, not my mother) she’ll be out the other side of them in about 6 weeks time! We also got a science museum recommended kit on equilibrium and gravity (I will not have children believing that science is boring and hard work!) and Small chose a Horrible Science Eerie Eyeball kit which he has thoroughly enjoyed examining tonight.

Small was up in the elementary for a while today as well – he’s having a bit of a maths explosion atm. He appears to have figured out the rules for division by himself, and somehow has acquired far more stability with written numbers too, which means that he’s suddenly leapfrogged the stage he’s been at for ages (unable to read out any numbers before him, though reasonably adept at manipulating them) and is now filling pages with sums of his own making. He’s fascinating to watch, and I’m rather enjoying having him around – he is a bit harder work than the other children, but not hugely so.

Big is loving suddenly being surrounded by other girls – to the extent that she really isn’t sure if she needs Brownies any more :rolls: She’s also quite happy that I’m going to be her teacher, so it looks like everything is coming together fairly well atm. Here’s for some sunshine as well, and I think we’ve cracked it.
