I had Egg on the phone earlier, some automated system that wanted to query some transactions that had made against our card. When I keyed in that I didn’t recognise one, it cut me off 🙁 It then took some time to track down a phone number to ring them on, to discover that £1.58 to ITunes at 4.50 am was very definitely the least of my problems.

Now the card is blocked and it will take a week to ten days for the new one to arrive. Fortunately Tim had filled up with petrol this morning 😉 (although they did ring through to get authorisation apparently). So score one for the good guys – the transactions will be investigated and then refunded, although I haven’t been told how long that will take. Reminds me of a time at university when my card was used to withdraw money from the cash machine of my bank. Only problem being that my card was in my pocket of my jeans which I was wearing to a psychology lecture a good 20 minutes walk away at the time. That was when I left the then Midland bank as they refused to believe me, although they did refund half of the transaction as a good will gesture!

Slightly nervous now, wonder what else has been going on. Will be checking all bank and card statements even more carefully next time they come in – although these transactions weren’t even showing up online yet, they’d been picked up before that point.

makes me seriously consider cutting up cards and going back to the good old bad old days of cash and cheques (except of course, most supermarkets don’t take cheques these days…)

  2. £1.58? what sort of fruad is 1.58 on iTunes. Pah, just can’t get the right quality of fraudsters nowadays….

  3. That was only where they started…

  4. You’ll be OK :o) I’ve had my credit card details stolen twice online now, and the bank always just puts a stop on it and credits back everything that I don’t recognise. The last time it was used to buy train tickets in Italy, shirts, porn and for a £5 donation to Christian Aid ;oP
