If you want to see what I was writing last night

Pop over to the Zero Cash series of articles I’ve been going on, and on, and on, about, read the final article, then download the book. Go on 🙂

And now I’m off to do some serious work on Codeplacidly.

eta no, I didn’t write the book…but you’ll find what I was writing *in* the book…

  1. It looks like a very interesting series Jax. The final article tells me most of what I wanted to know. If a well-known and well-respected expert on all things web-marketing can turn $0 into $300 using a website in two months, what is the bleeding point in us plebs trying?
One thing I’d like to learn is how she made $70 off Google Adsense in two months on such low traffic without breaking any of the rules. That is one *hell* of a lot of clicks.

  2. The rate adsense pays per click is very variable. If she happens to have keyed in to some of the more lucrative markets she could make that much with less than a hundred clicks.
Two months? These were a series of articles about starting a business, not starting a get rich quick scheme. If what you wanted was the latter, send me £50 in a plain envelope and I will send you details of how I earnt £50 just by posting a comment on a blog.

  3. I appreciate that some segments of the ad market are more lucrative than others. I note (and blogged) that during the time the series of articles covers, Google was selling maternity clothing and pregnancy advice on my blog, so maybe that is where the money came from – serendipity. A maternity-based online business being launched at the same time as a big on-line adpush in the maternity market. What a great stroke of luck.
So what kind of CPC do you think the author was receiving, if volume of clicks is not the answer?
Indeed, the articles do not describe a get-rich-quick scheme nor did I expect them to – it is about web business after all! 🙂 I’m interested to see how well The Lactivist does over the next year or two. It’s a great idea. Hopefully the owner will post updates.
Instead of me learning how to earn £50 from you, how about I teach you instead how to save £45? Send me £5 in a plain envelope for details.

  4. Did you read all the articles Paul? Because the first articles tell you what you need to know (which of course may not be the same as what you wanted to know 😉 ). I find the articles extremely inspiring, and have already started putting some of the suggestions into practise, as I mentioned. And if you wander around the series, there’s forums and a discussion thread, and a whole load of supportive informed ppl willing to assist.
Actually, the bit I find most daunting about the whole thing is Jennifer’s energy levels – how does she keep it going?
ps the articles span 30 days of the project although they were posted over a longer time period than 30 days…

  5. simultaneous posting…Jenn has already promised to give weekly updates for the next few weeks, and then monthly after that.

  6. Oh, and I hate to break it to you, but breastfeeding is what happens when the maternity and pregnancy advice is past its sellby date…

  7. Am I missing something but isn’t just a load of stuff about marketing? A subject that I find very uninspiring. I didn’t read it as a series of articles about ‘setting up a business’ which might well be inspiring.

  8. You’re missing something 🙂 – it’s a series of articles about setting up a business about something you believe in. Or that’s how I read it anyway – Jenn is really passionate about breastfeeding, her expertise lies in search engine marketing and she brought the two together to set up a business and share the whole process with the searchengineguide readers. She also learnt a lot of stuff about business other than marketing – building relationships, all the technical stuff about tracking visitors, how some of it can be down to just luck and so on.

  9. Jax,
Jennifer is certainly passionate about breast-feeding and likes to talk about it.
As to reading all the articles, no I haven’t the time right now but I can dip into them as inspiration takes me. Their continued existence is assured as they drive a lot of traffic to her “real” website.
If your intention was to educate as to the techniques of grassroots marketing and SSP, you have certainly succeeded and I appreciate it.
Have you considered a career in education? 🙂
One last question. Where does http://www.lactivist.com fit into all this?

  10. My intention was to share with ppl I know a series of articles I have found interesting, fun and educational. It was not, in this case, specifically to educate ppl myself, I think Jennifer had that down pat.
However, the articles which I have renewed enthusiasm to write for codeplacidly will be educational about online topics in general 🙂
lactivist.com appears to be someone else’s site, so it doesn’t really fit into anything at all – I don’t think Jennifer claimed to come up with the term, it’s in moderately common usage in some circles.

  11. My favourite ad-sense ad was one that appeared on Sarah’s brother’s movie review site. He had been very critical of the violence in Kill Bill, in fact if I recall he switched off after a very short period of time. Whilst reading this I noticed an ad on his adsense for full-size samurai swords. The irony of it.
I presume google have now moderated their adsense T&Cs which last time I read them said the first rule of adsense is you must not talk about adsense, the second rule being that google were always right in any adsense dispute, despite any evidence to the contrary.
