Happy tummy, happy mummy.

No, I don’t quite believe I typed that either 😉

I’m working with Activia (again) and today I’m writing about the benefits of life with a happy tummy.

Now, I’m not a doctor, nutritionist or dietitian (why is that word so difficult to spell?) but I have experienced a whole section of life with an extremely unhappy tummy, so I think I’m reasonably well placed to talk about that aspect of it.

After 20 years as a vegetarian (for reasons related to my squeamishness re animals and captivity, rather than anything related to nutritional content), I’m now omnivorous again, and my main guideline is moderation. Fruit, veg, salad, all feature heavily, but I’m not treat averse by any stretch of the imagination. Mmm, chocolate. Favourite breakfasts? Yoghurt with banana and honey. Porridge on a cold day. Toast every now and then, or the indulgent luxury of pancakes (also featuring yoghurt and honey, or lemon and sugar. Treacle never feels like a morning thing somehow.) Breakfast on the go (maybe on the way to a blogger event? 😉 ) can now feature Activia Fibre, yoghurt with a helping of wheat bran fibre to help keep everything moving as it were.

If I’m eating sensibly, exercising regularly (pilates and running, thank you for asking), and sleeping well, my whole body, tummy included, works better, and I’m happier. Me being happier gives me more patience and energy to deal with life with 4 children. It’s a beneficial circle. I manage stress by choosing my environment these days, which makes life much easier. (Of course, as I’ve mentioned several times recently, I’ve been rather off colour since December, which means that I’m not running at the moment. And I’m really noticing that – I’m starting to get twinges in my back 🙁 )

It’s taken me a long time to work out what works for me in terms of food, activity and health, but I’m pleased to say that nasty winter viruses notwithstanding, I think I am getting there.

What do you do to keep your tummy happy?

Join the Activia #HappyTummy celebration on facebook – it’s a great place for recipes and inspiration.

Disclosure – this is a sponsored post.

Activia Fibre contains wheat bran fibre that contributes to an acceleration of intestinal transit.

The claimed effect is obtained with a daily intake of at least 10g of wheat bran fibre.

Enjoy as part of a healthy balanced diet and lifestyle.

  1. For me, a happy tummy is achieved by daily exercise. Not the stuck in a sweaty gym variety, but a run, a long walk or, more recently, a bicycle ride. Even a half hour run is enough on a busy day and being outdoors in fresh air is vital.
I hope you get back to running soon, Jax. Totally empathise with your injury woes 🙁

    1. I made it out for 15 minutes today. It feels really hard work, but I have to believe it will get easier! I agree with you that outdoor exercise feels so much better.
