5 years old today. Haven’t told him he doesn’t actually notch up 5 years til this evening, as I don’t think he could have waited that long for presents!
He did wait until after 9, which surprised me rather, I’d expected to be woken up shortly after 7, but there you go. And now they are (noisily) contentedly playing with Hot Wheels Shark Park [Toy] with his three new cars, while he stops every now and then to cuddle his new book, The New Goblin (Spider-Man 3)
. He even said thank you for his T shirt, although the You Can Paint Like Van Gogh: A Complete Kit for Aspiring Artists with Other and Paint Brush and Paint and Booklet (Artist in a Can)
set hasn’t interested him in the slightest. I’m glad that I guessed that would be the case after I saw it and got him something else! The two books that Big chose (Monster Things to Make and Do (Usborne Activities)
& Pirate Things to Make and Do (Usborne Activities)
) have gone down quite well, although I’m not as sure about her unbirthday present, Aspiring Author’s Journal
. Ah well, maybe she’ll get interested in it later.
Later on today he wants to make his model helicopter with Tim, and I might take Big down into town as I found two new shops that might do dresses for her. The age 10-11 dress we got her from Tesco’s at Easter is far too short and I don’t know what she’s done with the two short pairs of leggings she could have teamed it with to spare blushes. I think she’s grown again – we measured her a month or so back at 135 cm – tall enough not to actually legally require a car seat, and I think she might have added some more to that since.
So now I’ve got bread on and washing in (the rain having receded briefly) and I’m waiting to hear what Small’s plans for the rest of the day are. Of course I do still have to feed the rabbits at some point – only today and tomorrow left as the rest of the gang are back tomorrow night and will take over for the weekend.
