Groundrules and guests.

Last week it was very wet and dreary for August, so A bought a Wii for holiday club, which at least meant the children were active and happy rather than just drooping around the place. Then as they are away this week, I’ve brought the Wii home – I’ll take it back to school next weekend so that her family can have it next week. Obviously bringing a games console into a house without such equipment has resulted in much anguish – my children appear to be incapable of coming to any agreement without at some point Small battering Big and her wailing. So this lunchtime we’ve negotiated groundrules – they take it in turns to choose, if the other player doesn’t want to play the chosen game they don’t have to (although a parent may step in at this point if they feel inclined), there’s a line on the floor that they mustn’t pass and it goes off for 10 minutes in every hour. (I’d probably be limiting playing time within the day if it weren’t for the fact that we’ve got it for such a short time anyway.) I have to say that on current experience it looks extremely unlikely we’ll be indulging in buying one for our usage, as it’s just caused far too much upset. Anyone any ideas how long it might take for the novelty to wear off and civilisation to return?

We have quite enjoyed playing it ourselves on an evening – particularly golf last night, which kept us up well after midnight 😉 and then of course there was a scrabulous game to finish. I feel like I had a hard night on the beer and really it’s just sleep deprivation.

As a counterpoint to the Wii festivities, we had guests yesterday. The Beans stopped off for a meal break on their way back south, and mere moments after they’d arrived my parents stopped in to drop off our post from old house as well. Which meant that for a little while it felt like we had a real houseful – it was rather nice. Lunch was pleasant and ran on into almost tea, so all in all, it was a lovely afternoon. And I do enjoy being able to say see you soon when distant friends are departing. Must set to work considering pirate costumes 🙂

Now I’m supposed to be getting on with doing things and really I just feel like loafing about. Might be time for a cup of tea and some cake first.

    Which Sarah was I?

Oooh, tea and cake, now there’s an idea….

  2. We just buy more consoles, then at least we can send them from one to another! Can’t say how long it would take for the novelty to wear off as we have always had one so the kids don’t know any different. We do have a timer so no-one hogs it if they aren’t playing together tho.
