Groundhog day

My first twitter of the day read: late morning (again), headache (again), tetchy children (again), maybe I’m in groundhog day? Feels a bit like that recently. The headache comes and goes, when it’s here, it’s one of those don’t move your eyes kind of pains. Which means that sitting crocheting is perfect, but trying to excavate childrens’ rooms to find missing pieces of doll’s house, not so good.

Big had a reasonable day though. Tim and her did prime the doll’s house with olive oil, which took a large part of the afternoon. Small has wavered a couple of times – he didn’t like the feel of the oil on his hands, so he didn’t really get into doing that, and instead came up to undo the tidying at least as fast as I was doing it. I’ve filled up two 45 litre plastic boxes, one with stuff, and one with clothes that may or may not fit Big, as well as taking at least that much out in dirty washing (eugh) and a hefty carrier bag of rubbish too. There’s floor to be seen in there, although granted a fair bit of it is now covered in plastic boxes 😉 The next time Big rants on about it being Small’s bedroom as well, and he should help clear up, I’m going to go and remove stuff of hers til she’s got the same amount in there that he has, that should make it much easier to tidy!

After they’d done the house, Small remembered the feathers he bought yesterday and I gave him a pack of foam stickers too. That kept him going for ages, with only a minor meltdown to begin with as he couldn’t get into the feathers as I’d confiscated the scissors after he’d left them open on the floor twice. Hm. Once that hurdle was passed (I opened the feathers) he made pictures and stuck stickers to feathers and so on, and was happy.

I’ve done a bit more crochet – Rowan wool cotton with a self wound centre pull ball, it’s just so easy! Getting towards the chart bit for the pattern, so going to have to wind the other colour up tonight as well. Big’s looking forward to that – Small got the last cone from me winding wool off, and she gets this one.

Right, don’t know what we’re going to watch tonight given we’ve finished the last of Space Above and Beyond. It might be Survivors as we watched one of those last night, but they aren’t very cheery. Don’t think we’ve got any more Eureka yet though.

  1. lol, my girls regularly have that argument about whose stuff is whose and who should clear it up … it is *usually* resolved quickly when I threaten black bag treatment though!
Hope you can kick the headache more permanently very soon.

  2. Groundhog Day was actually on, last night, on one of the more obscure ITV channels – we watched it!

  3. Was space Above and Beyond any good? Don’t think I’d want to watch Survivors again really

  4. S: AAB is excellent.

  5. yuck to continued headache.
I like centre pull balls of yarn too, they don’t run off across the living room when you pull htem. Was a very useful thing we learned with that!
As for tidy rooms, I don’t think Aprilia has noticed yet that half her stuff didn’t go back in when we emptied it. I just daren’t take her near any local charity shops for a month or two!
