Our children are morning ppl. Tim and I are night owls. This has often resulted in the children getting up and breakfasting and watching tv on their own and us staggering down an hour or two later, which then sets the pattern for a bad day.
Wanting to break the pattern, we’ve decided that reading should happen before TV, so even though I crawled to bed far too late, and then was up in the night with Small, when they got up and had breakfast, I got up too.
It took 50 minutes to do 30 minutes reading, as we had to fit in a whole lot of wailing and whinging too, but it seems to have sparked something off – once she’d done reading instead of vegging in front of the tv, Big got out her Jolly Phonics workbooks and is now wading her way through them. They’ve been on the go for quite literally years, and it would be nice to get them polished off.
Wonder if I can sneak a maths book in front of her after that? 😉
Other plans on the cards are a trip to chesterfield to gather things to send in our box swap parcels. We’ve two on the go now – October’s is running rather late as we were away at the beginning of the month, and then I was ill, and the November list has just come out and we are matched up with a family who’ve had two unsuccessful swaps (they’ve sent stuff and had nothing in return). Given that it’s going to take a while for our package to get there, I want to get it in the post fairly soon, as I don’t want them to have another disappointment.
Also want to pick up some stuff to make memory boards – think I can get most of what I want in the works and the tourist information which are at least quite close to each and the car park, and really hoping that my parcels arrive today. Would love to get a start on at least one Christmas project before I go back to work!
