first beach day.

Monday was forecast to be the last hot day of this run, so on a whim we popped to the beach.

hahahahahaha.

There are no whims here. There is no quick and easy popping. My children do not do well with spur of the moment suggestions. Which is a shame, as I don’t do all that well with planning.

Tim suggested we go to the beach, and it seemed like a very good idea to me. Couldn’t find anyone to go with us, so stuck with just me and the kids and about two hours after the decision was made, we were finally out of the door with everything we all needed. (Which is actually quite a lot of stuff for three children. Glad that I do insist on them carrying their own bags!)

Given it was a week day beach was devoid of other children, though our usual section was occupied by an older couple so we had to move over one. Humph. (Did I mention we’re not good with change?) I’d taken the beach shelter so once that was up that was me and the baby sorted while the other two did all the obvious things – danced in the cold water, ran around and screamed, buried each other in the sand.

but it's cold

Eventually, after we’d eaten our packed lunch, and the wind had got up and actually made us chilly, the children dried off (shivering in the wind) and we packed up and headed up to Ruby’s for a hot chocolate. Think that might have to become a family tradition, at the very least for the first beach visit of the season. And I discovered that Ruby’s understands vegetarians, so if we ever want lunch out, I think we’ll eat there 🙂

Quick march from the beach to the leisure centre to drop Big off with her Monday fun swim friends, and then home for an unwind before Tim delivered Small to beavers in the car as by then we’d all had enough of walking.

An excellent day all round – one day I’ll get used to this seaside living. At the moment it feels rather like a dream, or an extremely extended holiday!

  4. I think the beach is one of the things we’ll miss most when we move! There always seems to be way too much to carry, until you actually get there and remember what it is you’ve forgotten to bring 😉
SOA is looking very grown up!

  5. Jax, this is doing nothing for my urge to move to the coast! Looks like a fantastic day, despite the adjustments required, and I do love Soa’s spots 🙂
