Feels like I really ought to blog

but it will have to be quickly as somehow it’s nearly lunch time, and I am going to have to go shopping (yuk, on a Saturday 🙁 ) as we’ve very little food in the house.

Melrose was a good week. I suspect that arriving a day late was actually good for my extended sanity as I really didn’t get very much sleep at all – cosleeping with wriggly toddler on bent bunk beds not being particularly good for that. Big didn’t join in with any of the organised sessions – didn’t even want to go to Dynamic Earth which rather annoyed me at the time, as *I* wanted to go!, but it turned into a very pleasant quiet day in the hostel, and gave me time to feel I was assisting by doing lots of cleaning 😉 She also did some maths workbook that day, so there was a small amount of visible education involved. Small loved it – varied between completely independent and vanishing for ages, and being completely clingy and attached to my lap.

So what did Big do? She basically ran wild with lots of other little girls in dressing up clothes – I was very impressed to see her wearing Maddy’s new princess and the pauper dress at one point, as I think Maddy spent most of the rest of the week in it. She had a great time both with ppl she already knew, and others she’d never met, and didn’t appear to have any major fallouts with anyone – definitely a step up on previous group holidays then!

Small bumbled around mainly by himself, but occasionally with other ppl. He loved his cars, although obviously I need to take more so that he is fully supplied for the week. Stopping at the metro centre on the way up was a bit of a bargain – got the slippers that Big was desperate for for a quid (poundland is a wonderful place) as well as a bead thing, toy jewellry (sp?) and a couple of friction powered cars. Didn’t mean to be there for two hours though, oh well.

Weird thing about the week for me though is that I didn’t seem to spend all that much time with various ppl that I was planning to – Joyce, I’m sorry that I didn’t do any computer stuff with you, Karen, ditto on the crochet, although at least I managed to do a little crochet with Abbie and Hannah. Only did half of one of my squares though, so got some serious catching up to do there, especially as I got home to find two parcels waiting for me (shriek!) I enjoyed the evenings with wine although they’d have been better without the toddler, hohum. And I did find that whatever it is that has stolen my voice depressed my hearing even further than usual so I struggled to communicate in big groups.

Was very happy to finally get my mobile working with the laptop, although was unable to blog as vodafone connect decided it was a dodgy site for under 18s, and I couldn’t get them to believe that I’m over 18! Grr….

Lovely to be home though, especially to discover that Tim’s back is a lot better – thank you to all and sundry to asking. The driving gave me time to consider lots about our life and how I want to live it, got a few bits to ponder more on and will blog in more detail as decisions are made.

Now, wonder when I’ll get to post this – writing it at 12.13pm Sat, but we’ve just lost our ADSL connection 🙁

  1. Well I’m seeing it now (2.40) although it could well have been here earlier 😉
Excellent to meet you ‘properly’ this week and to meet Tim (and Sarah) on the way up too.

  2. Ditto on the sharing the bunk with a small wriggling toddler. It was bliss to sleep in my own bed last night toddler free. 🙂

  3. Hmm, sharing bunks with wriggling toddlers… not my idea of an entertaining holiday! Methinks I’d better dig out the travel cot if I manage to book myself on one of these hols! 🙂

  4. tbh, I don’t think the toddlers made that much difference to the amount of sleep obtained – anyone care to differ?! The bunks were pretty uncomfortable at the best of times!

  5. Well, the right hand bottom bunk without Small was my best chunk of sleep – four hours till he wanted to join me. The first night in the left hand bunk with him was unpleasant to say the least! I did wonder about reporting the bunk to the warden, I’m sure it was close to being dangerous, but I was rather afraid that its state might be attributed to small ppl bouncing… 😉
