Ever such a long time

since I’ve blogged properly.

Much working going on, and some moderately horrendous driving. I’ve also carried on with the odd bit of decluttering here and there. Thrown out about another 3 or 4 bags of rubbish last weekend, quite impressive given that I only went at it on Sun afternoon!

Haven’t really managed to fit in any crochet this week – have spent evenings vegging to a variety of TV shows, including CSI (the original and the sunglasses edition) with occasional segues into Heroes and Numbers. Tonight we’re enjoying Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Once More, With Feeling (2001), ages since we’ve watched any Buffy, but was inspired to dig out this episode after watching When Janet met Johnny from Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps – Series 1-6 Box Set [2001] the other night.

Hoping to feel craftily inspired this weekend, as I’ve received my delivery via Canada from the Annies Attic sale a month or so back. Great bundle of booklets, and some Tunisian crochet hooks. Looking forward to getting to grips with that, although my first couple of attempts were somewhat lopsided. Not quite sure where I’m going wrong with it, but I daresay I’ll figure it out.

Big was enthralled with a booklet of patterns for Victorian dolls dresses – could entice her into crochet along with me yet 😉 Also got my pattern a day calendar – slightly disappointed with it tbh. The box is fiddly and arrived slightly damaged – Tim thinks manufacturing fault rather than transit accident. Then there isn’t a pattern a day – I’ve only looked through the first month and several patterns span 2 or more days. The paper is very thin – might be OK as a throw away cartoon a day style thing, but if you’ve just bought a few hundred patterns, the odds are you were planning to keep them.

All in all, it just hasn’t been thought through at all, and unless there is some really compelling reason to think differently next year, I won’t be indulging again. (Don’t get me wrong though, the patterns I’ve looked at so far I really like. It’s the idea that they are going to get crumpled and lost very easily that’s annoying me).

I’ll attempt to actually do some real blogging at some point this weekend – at the moment if I read back through all of this, I wouldn’t have a clue what was happening in our lives, and that isn’t the idea at all!

  1. I love Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. Pure genius TV.

  2. shame about the callendar, could you laminate them or something? photocopy onto stiffer paper? Victorian doll dresses sounds wonderful. Oh, and I assume you know Anni’s attic does a free pattern every day?
Ps – tapestry purse? abandoned maybe? 😉 I only ask as I fancy doing it but if it’s too daunting I’ll not bother!

    laminator!!

  4. Nope, didn’t know about the free pattern a day! Will take a peek at that if I can locate it – thanks.
Tapestry purse not at all abandoned, just put to the back of the queue as there were time critical things to do. It’s actually a rather pleasant item to work on – I bought the right yarn for it, and it does make a difference. The only bit that’s daunting about it is how many stitches there are in a round, and I got somewhat confused last time I did it, and have gone from too few to too many in a round, and I haven’t quite figured out what to do to fix it. (There has to be a particular multiple by the time you get to the pattern).
Helen, I considered laminating, but we’ve never owned a laminator, and while we did have a box of sleeves, I took them over to Jan’s. I do occasionally request laminating there, but I think requesting 365 pieces might be a little excessive!
We are debating a solution 🙂

  5. Annie’s Attic free patterns

doesn’t appear to have an RSS feed sadly so you need to remember to look and they are only up for 24 hours. Today’s is rather lovely.
Thanks for the comments about the purse, I’ll keep that in mind, I was intending to just use any old yarn so it’s a good job you mentioned that.

  6. Admitting to having plenty of Buffy (and Angel) DVD boxsets here too – although one of my favourite bits has to be Spike driving along listening to the Dead Kennedys (in Angel).
