Eek, I seem to have covered some of the national curriculum

how did that happen then?

We did all this. in November. Wonder if there’s anything else we’ve covered without knowing it.

Anyway, today.

I’m afraid it hasn’t been the calmest start to the New Year. Shouty mummy made a big come back – something to do with having a madcap little girl, and a very inquisitive little boy. And too much work, and not enough money, and yet we aren’t suffering from it (not yet, anyway) so I don’t know why I’m getting so stressed, and that in itself is stressing me out.

So it was good to get out of the house and go to our puddlers group this afternoon. The children ran around frantically, as if we’d had them tied to chairs for the past two weeks – made me realise that I *need* to get myself and my two out of the house a little more often – and the walk to the car to do the shopping doesn’t count 🙁 But as soon as we put out tables, they all came and sat down – so maybe I need to be offering more activities too!

Kirsty had brought stuff to do cotton bud skeletons, which tied in quite nicely with the body stuff we did a little while back. Was quite pleased with how much Big remembered – we didn’t do that much on it, and it was quite a while ago. Not quite so pleased with how demanding of my attention she was, or more accurately the way in which she was demanding it.

After they’d had enough of that, they all started running around madly again. I was just about coping with it, although I spoke to Big a couple of times asking her to chill a bit, when Small got well and truly flattened. I’m afraid at that point I lost it rather and bellowed at them all to stop running. They did. 🙁

Kirsty moved fast again, and got them organised for story time, while Barbara gave me a hug and I apologised to Stella for my overreaction – still ashamed of my lack of control on that one.

Anyway, apart from that it was a lovely meeting, and we’ve planned to do stuff with wool next time (maybe some weaving, plaiting, Kirsty came up with a story book she can bring), and Chinese New Year the time after (envelopes, origami, lanterns maybe and Kirsty came up with a story book she can bring….). We talked about maybe doing some instrument stuff some time, and we do need to pick other ppl’s brains as well. We’d like to have at least one session ahead planned, and I hope to get all our material onto the group website too.

Home and homecooked food (and some car ed on the way home – how does the car use petrol, how does it steer?), so pat on the back for that. Bath and bed, and I’ve been pottering doing bits tonight, but not as much as I’d like to. Another of my not quite resolutions is to attempt to clear the decks before I go to bed, because I find getting up to a kitchen tip means I struggle to get myself organised for the day, so I’m off to wash up now. Night all.

  1. I like the sound of your group- probly too far for us to visit tho 🙁

  2. Well, I’m not sure exactly where you are, but Katy came over from Manchester way one time, so you can’t be much further than that – I’d do you lunch 😉

  3. so kwym about the kitchen – if I’ve left horrid jobs until the morning then I don’t want to get out of bed!

  4. Good to see you again yesterday. I don’t think it was a major overreaction they were very very noisy!

  5. I am sorry that I took up so much time last night with that ******* blog. Espcially as there wasn’t even the satisfaction of getting it working in the end. I envy you the gropu though – sounds good, and much better than ours – which I fine it impossible to fix, so just becomes more and more unsatisfying. In fact, no one has suggested a date for re-starting yet, so not sure it will 🙁

  6. I hated myself for bellowing at a kid at our group party, he was going round popping balloons and Fran was crying because she just hates the sound. I’d never even met him or his mum and i just lost it and shrieked. It happens :~)

  7. Yes, your group does sound lovely. The one round here is a little dormant. I wouldn’t worry about having a holler at some of the rowdy kids- I expect everyone was glad you’d done it, releiving them of the necessity!!

  8. Hi, I came across your site through Merry’s on ‘Muddle Puddle’. I’m new to all this, with a two-year-old boy who I’m committed to HEing. I had a similar ‘return of shouty mummy’ experience today and felt dreadful – doesn’t seem as bad when you realise others are going through a similar thing! My little one is highly intellegent and hugely energetic, with extreme sensitivity/tender-heartedness thrown in alongside incredibly passionate emotional outbursts – I have trouble ‘cos I’m more or less exactly the same, so when he ‘errupts’ I struggle not to errupt right back at him. Some you win, some you lose!
Bright Blessings – thanks for sharing!!
