People following me on twitter yesterday could hardly have escaped noticing that we were having a party 🙂
I admit it got off to a slightly rocky start. We were due back from home ed roller skating at 4, but I’d forgotten to take my house keys with me, and Tim had gone out. So instead of settling our guests down with a chat about Dora, we were running around the garden to keep warm. Oops!
Anyway, once inside, we decided some fortifying cakes were needed, while we took a look at the cards on the new slightly more grown up Dora and her group of friends. By the time cakes had been decorated and hot chocolate drunk, it was Dora time. (5 pm Monday, nick Jr in case you’re wondering. )
The older children are slightly unhappy that Boots hasn’t made the trip to Playa Verde, but I’m assured by Nick Jr that he’s still featuring in original Dora, new episodes coming soon. So all is not lost. Map upgrade is a bit unnerving too, but overall the feeling of the show is very similar to the original, with helping out being the theme of the day, and bursting into song a constant risk.
The party was, as parties usually are, great fun. Getting the kids off the TV was easy when the alternative was a pass the parcel with clues 😉 (And that’s a great idea that I’m stealing for the next kids party I have! (No, not the TV episode in the middle, the clues ))
The younger children loved new Dora. And her friends. The older children (and me if I’m honest) are a little bit sad. We know that children grow up, but cartoons aren’t actually children. And Dora hasn’t grown up gradually, it’s a big change, with Map becoming an app, Boots nowhere in sight, and a whole new setting. But I’m assured that Boots is still in original Dora, with new episodes coming soon, so maybe me and the older ones will go on watching that, and the little ones can grow up with new Dora. What do you reckon.
