You may recall (um can’t actually remember whether I blogged it or only twittered!) but I got £738 for my car. Knock off the excess, and that’s a very small amount. I sent in a couple of letters asking how they reached their valuation, as a minimal level of research disclosed that I couldn’t buy a beaten up fiesta even for that amount, and yesterday afternoon, in the middle of a ludicrously hectic day at work, my mobile rang. It was a very nice lady from the insurance company who agreed that it was a ridiculously low amount, loaded up her internet search, and said £1000 sounded more reasonable and would it be alright if she popped a check in the post?
Um, you’d like to send me money? Oh go on then. 😀
Let’s gloss over silly days, and cars not starting and late arrivals, and children falling over in the dark and cats going missing and all the rest of it and focus on the good points shall we?
Cat has reappeared. Ludicrously happy to see me, purred all the way through his bowl of food. Not that he’s been starved, mother has been posting food through the catflap into the shed and something has been eating it, I’d expect it to be him.
Big is alright really – she’s grazed her face and banged her arm and knee, but she’s now learnt that demonstrating how dark it is by running into a very dark corner is a *bad* idea. I got lots of cuddles out of it – and when she’s really hurt she runs to me, not her teacher. Is it bad to feel a warm glow at that point? I’d rather not have had the demonstration, but if I had to have it, I’d prefer it to work out this way iyswim.
Small is being stroppy – but has admitted to it and promised to do better. He doesn’t know but I ordered him a book the other day and it got posted this morning. Do you think he’ll like Spider-Man Level 1 Reader: The Amazing Story: The Amazing Story Level 1 (Spiderman Level 1 Reader)? I didn’t really want to buy him a level 1 reader (I’m not convinced by most reading schemes, the only one we’ve enjoyed has been the red nose readers
, but I was just looking for a book for him so that he got something in our parcel this week and it was cheap and it has Spiderman on it!) I ordered a book for Big too, Theatre Shoes
, which I’ve never read and I’m really looking forward to (might see if they’ll let me read it out loud to them 🙂 ) as it’s a loose sequel (read, vaguely related or occasionally mentions characters from) one of my all time faves, Ballet Shoes
. Oh, and I ordered something for us all to share: Dirty Dancing : The Official Dance Workout
. Will let you know if it’s fun to dirty dance with your offspring!
What else? Oh, I got to drive a ford focus – I didn’t already blog that did I? My car (the lovely merc, 50% dream car, 50% tank!) got a very dead battery (something to do with having been a second hand battery previously used on an astra apparently!! 🙄 ) and my boss’s husband has a garage. So he came and dropped off a focus and took away the merc, and put a new battery in and brought it back, for rather less than halfords would have charged me, and he didn’t patronise me once! And I got to try out a focus, rather nice actually. (Not sure I could get one for £1000 less the excess though 😉 )
Got to school tonight to pick up offspring and found larger one lying on her back in the playground with her teacher and teacher’s younger daughter, trying to identify constellations. Small was as usual bouncing round like a loon, wearing a fluorescent jacket thing, presumably so they didn’t lose him in the dark! So next week they’d like to borrow our constellation chart and maybe the telescope. I do love our school. It’s got to be the closest thing to home educating that can happen in a building elsewhere without your parents! 😆
