Tim was summoned this morning as the media centre downstairs decided to defunct – there had been a warning crash a week or so back, but today’s was pretty terminal. So Tim has spent the day trying to get the other media centre to play – it’s working as a computer now, but not happy to recognise the TV card, so no TV for the kids. Considering they hardly ever watch TV you’d think this wouldn’t be much of a problem, but apparently it is. Big was so bored, she even had to read some of Usborne Book of Famous Lives: Inventors, Scientists, Explorers, Kings and Queens, Famous Women which had a section on Madame de Pompadour, much to her amazement 😉

I, on the other hand, got up, pottered, showered, and went off to the local hospital for an X-ray. I’d expected to have to wait, so I took a book, Mockingbird (S.F. Masterworks). I am often rather put off books that get highly rated in this way – there’s some blurb on it about it being a forgotten masterpiece bridging the gap between SF and literature, which makes me cringe – but this one is fairly well put together, even if I’m only 110 pages into it so far. It passed the time nicely, anyway.

40 minutes or so waiting, for a 2 minute X-ray, and then it’ll be two weeks before the GP gets the results. I’m intrigued as to what form the results will take – do I assume that they don’t just send the X-ray to the GP for them to examine? Does someone else take a look at it alongside the GPs squiggle and determine a diagnosis? Ah well, we shall see. Walking to and fro the car (parked up the hill and around a corner to avoid car parking charges) proved to me that my problem is hip related rather than sciatic – I can feel that the hip is wrong in some way, it just isn’t quite moving right.

Home, lunch, cup of tea and out again, to wander around town, looking for last minute birthday pressies and hard drive replacements. I was unsuccessful in the latter so Tim is now out at PC World, one of his least favourite shops. I did get a couple of items for myself, Stretching (6 Minute Morning) and Thighs and Hips (6 Minute Morning) were on 2 for £3 in Wilcos and might actually help my hip out. Well, if I open them and use them of course!

And now I’m sitting feeling very wiped out, pondering going for a lie down. That sounds very appealing. I think I will.

  1. The x-ray will be viewed by a radiologist, who will then send a report along to the GP. In some areas, GPs are able to view the x-ray on computer, but tbh very few GPs will be able to get any more info from that than from the radiology report.
Hope you feel more energetic soon.

  2. was just going to say what deb said. I think also what happens if they find something that needs further looking at, is that the radiologist will refer it to the particular specialist, for further looking at, before a report is submitted to GP.
