Difficult days and elongated evenings

This week and next I’m on the evening shift, due to a gap opening up suddenly in our coverage. This means I’m not seeing the children very much – I stopped at a friends on Monday night and didn’t come home yesterday (went to Texere in Bradford instead, yum….) until after my shift, so that was very strange. This morning I got up and helped get them ready to school, then went back to bed for several hours – I’m feeling rather time-shifted. I used to like working shifts before children, not quite so sure now. There are several of us with children of various ages doing these shifts and we’re finding it odd in all sorts of different ways.

Anyway, so that’s work. This is a short term arrangement, hopefully, as it’s more than a little difficult to manage my team when I only see them for an hour or so. (Already mentioned the family effect, management isn’t the only reason I don’t want to go on doing this!) I usually end up with a queue shortly after I arrive. I think I’m going to go in a bit early today so as to get more time with them all.

Home, and I’ve got to excavate the dining room as at the weekend we’re getting a kitten. Actually I think what I’m going to do now is go shower, get ready for work and head there via IKEA as there’s a rumour I can get decent boxes there for a decent price. What I’d really like is a stack of wine cases as that would do the job nicely, but I’m really not sure how to locate them. Might pop to Morrisons first to see if they’ve any, but most of the time, they’ve only got those silly fiddly little vegetable cases. So if I spent a couple of hours tomorrow and Friday sticking stuff in boxes, and then do several runs to our local self storage place, I might recover the dining room. While trying not to do too much and wipe myself out – what day is it? Am I nearly there yet?

Was going to go sit in the sun with a cup of tea, but it’s gone in. Bleargh.

  1. Hope your day went as planned 🙂 Does sound crazy at yours atm, but it has to be a good incentive to make things change!

  2. Didn’t get boxes, didn’t get in early (it rained, apparently this is bad for traffic?) so other than that, day went as planned.
Went to sleep last night thinking about your maths puzzle…daren’t pop back to look in case anyone has put up a solution! (Want to work my own out first 🙂 )
