Got up this morning to find two deliveries in the porch – maths books from Maths no problem and our new veg box from Abel and Cole.
The veg box scared me slightly, so I left it in the kitchen while I hid behind a netbook, but the maths books went down really well with Big. Small’s workbooks are being sent on, and I didn’t realise that the pupil book had questions to answer in it, so he ‘putered while Big worked her way through the first part of her workbook.
Turns out that the new edition we were waiting for is My Pals are Here 2nd Edition, so I have bought maths books with monsters in after all. I was afraid that Big would think they were too young for her, but turns out she’s fine with it, and Small likes them a lot, so a happy mistake I feel.
Em arrived shortly after we’d lunched, and after a reasonably swift cuppa we headed out to meet WFHelen at the remnant shop and from there to the beach. Kids had a paddle for half an hour or so, then we tempted them out with double chocolate muffins and headed back home so that Em could get E to gym. WFHelen stopped off at the library and then came round for a cuppa, so that Small could sit and demonstrate computer games? Well, I suppose it’s interaction of a kind!
When they’d gone, I braved the veg box and cooked up cauliflower cheese, new potatoes and runner beans for tea. I know that won’t sound like much to the majority of you domestic goddesses out there, but the reality of it is that I’m a vegetarian who knows stuff all about vegetables, and never learned any basic cooking skills on my way through life. So creating a meal from scratch from ingredients out of the ground is deeply terrifying to me, and it was quite a milestone getting it all on the table.
Everyone ate at least part of the offering, though Small was less than impressed to have a restaurant setting for his tea (his words, not mine!). Then we got them clean, and they turned down reading in favour of another hour of maths.
Strange children I have.
Tomorrow the weather forecast is now saying fine, so I’m hoping that we’ll get a trip to Framlingham in – it’s Knight School this week. And if I’m going to manage that, I’d better get to bed now.
