Days like today

I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

Not that it really was so bad. It’s just I had so much to do today, and I’ve got to the end of it having achieved next to nothing. Running flat out to stand still, which, quite frankly, is depressing.

It also means that tomorrow, already slated to be somewhat full, is likely to be beyond hectic.

So what went wrong with today?

It probably started late last night, when the children didn’t go to sleep, and when given their final warning, gave me attitude, and so ended up with screen bans. Meant that they got up in bad moods and even though I offered ways of working their bans off, the attitude was set. Not helped by the fact that we had many men from the gas board here and the gas turned off, so as the temp outside was 2 degrees, the temp inside was falling steadily.

Running in 2 degrees was surprisingly OK. The gloves that Tim bought me last week really help and the ridiculous hi viz jacket is good too. Longest run so far today – 2.52 miles in 26 minutes. That’s actually starting to count as exercise I think. Has taken me months to build up to it though!

Slight hiccough as I got back when transferring from trainers to indoor shoes and I mislaid my lift. Decided it didn’t matter so trotted off down town without it to have lunch in subway (we know how to live 😉 ) and was so very wrong.

Tim had a business lunch, so it was just me the kids and the gas men this afternoon – full on face off with Small about clearing dirty clothes out of his room so that I can wash them for next weeks holiday resulting in the usual “I hate you” and “you’re the worst mummy ever” moments.

Sigh. And I had one of those “you don’t understand me” conversations with Big. I’m sure I didn’t have any of those with my parents til I was in late teens, are my children particulalry precocious or am I doing something wrong?

The day got away from me. Big had rookie lifeguard and land based training, and with no smartphone (see E72 how I miss thee again) I couldn’t take part in the OpenPlanetIdeas build hour. A few ppl did tweet about my concept (#OPI6), so I’ll try to follow up on that, though I’m really not sure when.

By this evening I was really regretting the loss of the lift. Which was another reason for the day getting away from me – I was panicking that I’d somehow bundled it in with the stuff we dropped at the charity shop on the way to lunch. Then eventually I sat down and stuck my hand down the side of the chair cushion, and there it was.

On the plus side, losing it did motivate me to chase up podiatry for a spare. Which may or may not be made tomorrow, and can now come in the post.

Won’t be a patch on the various stuff I’ve had in the post this week. Got my fab prize from DustClothing (recommend you check out their website for ethical clothing it’s wonderful stuff made from offcuts from other manufacturers, so cutting back on waste and not using any new fabric as such. I had a link to an article about it all, but I’ve lost it, am hoping someone will pop it in the comments here.)

Also got a lovely book, Her Fearful Symmetry *and* bar of Galaxy chocolate from CaraFreckles of the Freckles Family. Shall be packing that as my light reading for next week 😀

You’d think that a day that started with receiving chocolate would be a good day. Oh well. At least it finished with pizza and beer. I’d really like to be going to sleep now though. Could someone explain that to the baby for me?
