Days flashing by

The children are mainly content to amuse themselves, and I’m mainly content to let them. There are occasional bursts of what can be recognised as overtly educational activity – Big spent a while the other day choosing poems from a book and copying them out, for example. Lots of their time is spent outside – the weather here is milder and dryer than what we’re used to and they are thriving on it. It’s also more peaceful for me 😉

Yesterday their seeds from Dig In arrived, which surprisingly caused more excitement with Small than it did Big. Still, she has already got a number of plants in the ground, so it could just be that it was novelty for him. We couldn’t plant them straight away as there are two little beds they can use, but they are currently occupied mainly by mint. Well, they were yesterday morning, on and off through today I’ve plodded away at one of them and dug all the mint out. Not dissimilar to dealing with bindweed, although at least it smells better.

Other notable events of the weekend included Big managing to get a hairbrush fast in her hair to the extent that I had to cut it out. *No* idea how she achieved that. The following day we went and had it bobbed as I’ve got tired of the continual arguments over hair brushing. That’s always been the standing agreement, either she looks after it (and I will help with brushing if I’m asked) or it gets cut. Anyway, it looks absolutely lovely, even if she’s not convinced, and it’s way easier to brush.

While Big and I were at the hairdressers, Small decided that it was time to start reading again, although he couldn’t find the required book (a potter, obviously). Tim located it for him and I think he did read a few pages, so that was good.

The other thing that arrived in the post yesterday was the result from the combined NS screening earlier in the week. Apparently this baby is low risk for Downs, at 1 in 1122, which I think is pretty good for my age. Also impressed with how quickly the results came through given that I’d been told 2 weeks.

And that’s about it. I’ve been a bit out of it for the past couple of days – having finally got past the feeling ill stage of pregnancy, I succumbed to the virus that Tim had a week or so back, and have been joyfully hacking my lungs up on a daily basis. Lovely. Disturbed sleep has meant dazed days, to the extent that yesterday I went and keeled over for a few hours late afternoon. Am trying to bear this with equanimity, but in reality I’m quite annoyed. Oh well.
