Cake, park, yet more swimming.

As planned today, Small and I baked a cake this morning. He doesn’t get terribly involved, apart from in licking the bowl out 😉 ,but he was there, and we talked about measurements, he did a bit of stirring, and when I asked him to get Tim to check what the equivalent to gas mark 5 was, he read and repeated the number accurately 🙂

While we were baking, Big made yet another attempt to sort out her bedroom, spurred on by the thought of friend C coming round this evening.

Then lunch, and out to the park. Except that Small didn’t want to go, and had to be persuaded. Of course once we got there he just sprinted off into the distance, desperate to get to the play area, so I didn’t feel too bad for dragging him out. Just a bit bad that I’d missed half an hour of unwinding and chatting time. 🙁

Anyway, we got some chatting time, although Em was off not long after we got there, and Big’s other friend C turned up shortly after we did, so they were very happy to see each other. Both the kids went into the water for a little while, even though it seemed very cold to me, but they were happy with it.

Couple of hours later, and we were on our way home to our next social engagement. Luckily Aunt S had popped round to raid the garden (she runs a flower arranging business since retirement from teaching) and her presence distracted Small from me leaving with Big – he had been rather put out by the idea that we were going swimming without him. The purpose was to coach other-friend-C so that she will be able to move groups to catch up with Big as quickly as possible.

Walked down to pick her up and then on to the pool, where we told that it closed at 6, giving us just over half an hour. This surprised me as I was sure that our leaflet said it was open til 7, but I didn’t want to waste swimming time and so we just got on with going in.

The girls worked hard on the skills that C struggled with, mainly around putting her face in the water. I was highly amused by her telling me “you’re much better at teaching than my mum” 😆 Then they played for a while, though there wasn’t much room – we’d managed to come at the same time that a whole Brownie pack had come swimming. This of course led to many chances for confusion, best one was when C was in a cubicle and Brown Owl knocked and said are you a brownie – well of course she said yes! 😀

Walked back home after swimming and then served up pasta and garlic bread for tea before C was picked up just before 8. Children into bed, and I think it’s my turn now. I am so tired all the time just now. Can’t think why.

Remind me tomorrow to tell you about the conversation with Brown Beaver, Akela and another cub assistant – it made me very angry. Not with them, but it was about the review. 🙁
