I’ve struggled to get going today, even though I started with a quick painting and was actually quite pleased with it.
I used Sktchy app for inspiration as Zoe described here (one of the pictures in her post might look familiar). I used to draw every day but I’ve fallen out of the habit over the summer and really want to get back into it.
I might do one of the untouched months in my Draw Every Day book (affiliate link in sidebar I think). Or take up art journaling. I need to be doing something to be able to use my #acreativepractice tag on Instagram!
What do you do to keep yourself being creative?

Thanks for the link ๐ I really like your sketch/painting – particularly the limited colours. It makes for a good impact. Art journaling is a lot of fun. What do I do to keep myself creative? A bit of everything! Art journaling, painting, zendoodling, sketching, crochet. I used to do a lot of sewing (when I first started Top Floor Treasures) but all these other things are where my real creative passions lie.
I really want to try art journaling, do you have any tips?
-You can use any sketchbook/notebook/journal. But I find the ones with thicker paper are best (currently using an A4 Moleskine Folio Watercolour book)
-Never use Mod Podge to glue things in, it makes the pages stick together and destroys them when you try to prise them apart (bitter experience). Pritt Stick is fine!
-Treat it as art play – if you don’t like what you end up with, do something else over the top or just turn the page. No one else ever has to see it if you don’t want them to.
-Expensive supplies aren’t necessary, use what you have.
-Look on YouTube for art journal videos and check out DaisyYellow and Julie Fei-Fan Balzer (my personal faves!)
Ooh, thank you! I think the journal /sketchbook I have already isn’t up to what you’re describing, so I’ll track down something better.
My creativity is satisfied by blogging. I’d love to see the opposite of this picture – Rosey Tuesday? You really are a very good artist.
Ooh, now there’s a thought. I shall squint at Sktchy for inspiration.
And thank you ๐
i can’t seem to stop writing books. I’ve written… it think it’s four? this year already, all around a hundred thousands words. Of course they’re just first drafts but still, there we are, a fair amount of words!
I love this blue girl, i love the abstracty squares beneath her feet. I realise now they must be a path of paving slabs but when I first saw it, they looked like skyscrapers, a city skyline, so she’s high up in the sky somewhere which I rather liked!
It is a skyline in the original shot actually, so your first impression correct.
I am in awe of how you write – what’s the next step in the process?
Wonderful paintings. Thanks for sharing. Elf x http://www.elfeelgoodsvintage.uk
Thank you for popping by.
I love your picture. I am not arty, never had been. You’d of laughed if you had seen what my high school art teacher used to make me do every week. She said I was that bad that I shouldn’t even bother with her class, and made me sit at a window and draw the tree that was just outside – every lesson, for years. Did get good at drawing trees though ๐
Aw, that’s a mean thing to do though! I don’t know why so many art teachers do such horrid things.
This is really interesting! I’m blind so can’t see the picture haha but sure it looks fab!
Oh, and I didn’t fill in the alt text because I blogged off the tablet. I’m sorry, I shall rectify immediately.
I crochet, dabble in graphics design and now blogging. I won’t say I’m naturally creative but I’m quite critical which is part of it right?
In a constructive way, absolutely.
Gosh that’s really simple but I love it! I’m not a talented artist in the slightest ?
Simple is what I’m aiming for at the moment, pleased you like it.
This is so pretty. I love this sketch and watercolour. I have always been a big fan of gorguss and this reminds me of them. Well done lovely xx
As I’ve said on another comment on your blog somewhere, I would love to see more of your art work. Seeing someone do art is very calming to me for some reason haha, have you ever seen those videos online that show a drawing/painting being done and at the start you see not a lot but then it slowly comes to life? I think they are amazing. I don’t really do a lot of creative stuff anymore, I sing a lot if you’d call that creative? Haha.
