Blog/ life balance. Sounds like a good plan, where do I get one?

I’m not much of a one for routine, structure or planning. Or I wouldn’t be writing this post 17 minutes before the deadline. And I wouldn’t have been sitting up last night finishing off my ten at ten for tots100. But I am, and I was.

Blog life balance. Intriguing. The blog is just a part of my life, has been for such a long time. Sometimes it gets more attention, sometimes less. The whole blogging every day thing wasn’t good for me, though it still irks me that I didn’t make a year, and it still bothers me when I see holes in the calendar. (Sidebar, to your left.) I don’t think it’s blog life balance I’m missing, I think it’s life balance. And I think that’s because I’m still coming to terms with not going out to work. Given the two home educated children, toddler and bump it’s going to be a while before I can seriously consider the going out part of working, but oddly, it’s the blog that’s giving me some income and some clues on what I can do working from home.

I’ve got some plans. A couple more blog type sites that I’m working on launching, that will draw on many of the things I’ve learnt from blogging here. Some technical stuff, some less technical for one site, and some educational bits (from and around the home ed) for the other. I’m hoping that this site will help me to build up a readership for each of the new ones, but realistically, if I want to make a go of them in a business sense, I’ll have to get a bit more organised. It will at least double the word count I’ve been producing in a week for starters!

So maybe I’ll end up with some kind of structure and routine, and it will be the blog that helps me impose it. I’m not sure that’s the way it’s supposed to work. But as always, I’m just making it up.

  1. I’m looking for answers as I have no self-discipline when it comes to blogging. If it were my work at least I could justify the hours I put in. Good luck with both your ventures.

    1. Thank you. I’m a bit low on self-discipline too. *looks guiltily at damp basket of washing still waiting to be hung out*

  2. It’s hard to find a balance. Sometimes we forget and do it just before it’s due. Good luck with your new ventures and hope you find the structure your looking for. x

    1. thank you. It’s got to be here somewhere, right?

  3. I find it so hard to get organised and am always so distracted by twitter and facebook and all the things I want to do with the children.
Good luck with your new blogs. xxx

    1. twitter, ah yes. That is a bit of a distraction. The children? They do seem to eat time too…

  4. I think that may very well be the case. When I started working from home I became much more organised – although for me that meant the blog suffered. Had my blog been central to work though, it would have meant my blogging improved!
I’m looking forward to seeing what your new projects are.

    1. So am I if I ever get them sorted… 😉
