Beginning to wonder

if we might have cracked it. There appears to be child led learning going on all over the place. It’s a bit more contrived than I expected, but I think that could just be me getting into the swing of it.

Today we have done more MMM stuff, including planting (do you call it planting when you’ve just dropped the seeds onto wet cotton wool?) cress seeds, and rubbing old coins to look at kings and queens heads. That included a quick chat about roman numerals, and had I wanted to I could have followed that up.

We’ve talked more about the war, and watched part of a program about U boats (but we turned it off because Big got too scared). We walked around to the War memorial – 21 men from this village died in the first world war, and 8 in the second. There was a poppy wreath on the memorial, so that tied in nicely as well. On the way back we played I Spy.

Big read a book to me! It took a lot of encouragement, but was the first time she’d got over the fear – she was so chuffed with herself once she did it. She then read it to Small several more times – result!

We’ve talked some more about politics – queens v parliament, that kind of thing.

Small did some more drawing and they both ran around madly with a ping pong ball – which was why I togged them up and dragged them out to the war memorial.

Oh and we read two chapters of Ballet Shoes, and looked up Kuala Lumpur on our map.

I daresay there have been other bits in there that I’ve forgotten, but I think that’s an amazing amount of stuff really. Oh yes, she got to watch half a program about Monkey Business – she really enjoys that. The tv is back on Nick Jr just now, but I don’t feel nearly as bad as usual about it.

I’ve signed up to Primary School Science a new service that June negotiated a discount for home educators on. It looks really good , and adds a resource in an area I do sometimes worry about – I know that we’re covering all the science we need to atm, but it will be good to build up a bunch of bits to look at if we ever get the LEA round.

Tim and I started a discussion about recording learning, but didn’t get very far with it. I daresay we’ll return to it once we get rid of the kids for the night. I’ve also helped another member of MP onto the blogring – hello Rach, welcomed another local member onto the SYHEC list, hi K, kept on top of the washing up for a change, dealt with the compost (by handing it to Tim lol) and made a small inroad on the washing pile threatening to swamp the bathroom. Oh and I dealt with some more of my paperwork pile, but only the fun bits I’m afraid.

I’ve done research into a suitable 60th pressie for my mum (looking at commissioning an item of clothing from a fellow feminist parent) and pondered on how myself and various others of our lovely community could earn a lucrative living (or even just a comfortable living!) while at home with our beloved offspring. If I could just figure that out, then I think I could claim the superwoman label that I appear to be aiming for today without the headache that I’m currently sporting. 😉

  1. 🙂 SOunds like a great day! Well done! Will we see you tomorrow??

  2. What did she read to you? It’s a great moment, isn’t it! Sounds like an excellent day.

  3. Do you mean read as in really read? Wow well done Big 🙂
Sounds like a good day – don’t you just love it when a plan comes together! 🙂

  4. Great on the reading Big and give that HE Mummy a gold star for teaching her – Yes that’s you Jax!! Shucks about your headache and I’m right there with you on wanting to have a business from home to get more money.

  5. Wow – I’m shattered just reading that post. Glad things seem to be working out with Big at the moment.
I’ve yet to really check out the PSS site, but I was ever so impressed with the clip art. I’ve been looking for a decent source of animal photos (for classification) to save me scouring round for pictures of each one. This looks ideal.

  6. PS – I think you’ve missed some category headings 😉

  7. Big certainly seems to be on a roll… keep up the good work! And yes, please, I could do with earing some cash! My mums 70th birthday present was hijacked by some of my siblings- she ended up with a radio, and framed piccies of all her offspring’s families,(except mine, as I cant get them all together at once!)

  8. Wow Jax, and you blogged it as well! 😉 Sounds like a great day all round.
