BBC NEWS | Technology | Internet’s future in 2020 debated
Many of the surveyed experts predicted isolated and small-scale violent attacks to try and thwart technology’s march.
“Today’s eco-terrorists are the harbingers of this likely trend,” wrote Ed Lyell, an expert on the internet and education.
“Every age has a small percentage that cling to an overrated past of low technology, low energy, lifestyle.
Hm. Now, I don’t feel like an eco terrorist, and I’m certainly not particularly low technology (she smiles, tapping away at her wireless laptop while submitting post to blog on her own server!) but I don’t actually see that low technology or low energy is particularly overrated. Odd quote.

ROFL! As someone who *has* to have hook up when camping… actually I know what you mean, it’s one of those things that’s not really a Black and White issue isn’t it?
How about high tech, low energy? Don’t see why we can’t do that.

I’m envious about the flexischooling at a Montessori school. That’s a great thing to be able to do. What sort of age range is it? The ones near us only really did pre-school. Lani tried it and liked it, but it was a lot of driving. Our main reason for not doing it was that they didn’t, in practice, have any children beyond school starting age … which decided us finally to home educate. I’m glad now, but I’d love to have the potential for flexischooling with the correct age range.

MPSheffield formal meetings went out of the window quite some time ago, but I think they still get together every now and then. I wonder if Ed Lyell would have wanted the factory chimneys of victorian England to continue to belch out crud because doing anything about would be to go against “progress”? Wanting clean air wasn’t and isn’t trying to “cling to an overrated past of low technology, low energy, lifestyle”. Ditto clean drinking water, no increase in floods and hurricanes, etc. Sounds like he’s an education expert in need of education.
What would he feel like if someone hacked his computer or his bank’s and then posted HIS personal info on the internet? Or even happened to pick up a back-up tape from a credit card company that had unencrypted data on it? *sigh* it sounds like (unless he’s being misrepresented) he thinks anyone who doesn’t consider IT an unalloyed good is a rabid Luddite.
