Not directly connected 😉

For the rest of the week, Small amused himself on the computer mainly. Occasionally this was very irritating, depending on what website he chose to focus on, but most of the time, I could see pretty direct benefits, and he explored a lot of different things, including some excellent Lazy town based games that had him leaping round the living room trying to be Sportacus 🙂 . Our only area of difficulty was getting him into bed and asleep at night, but it wasn’t a major problem, and I really enjoyed getting back to reading to him – we’re about half way through Kensuke’s Kingdom now.

The excitement to the week was delivered by Tim on Weds afternoon going down with flu like symptoms. As the NHS is no longer doing swab tests, we’ve no way of knowing whether it really is/was the dreaded swineflu, but we had to assume it was, and so I had a lovely chat with one of our GPs on Thurs morning.

Tim was out of it for over 24 hours – but this is what his system does, he keels over and sleeps, and ran a pretty high temp during it. Once I managed to get him onto regular paracetamol and drinks it came down under control and I think he started feeling more comfortable, but he was very rough for a couple of days, and is only really starting to recuperate properly now, nearly 5 days on.

I’m watching and waiting to see if either of Small or me go down with any symptoms – so far so good. I had a headache and stressy stomach yesterday, but it was headed off with an hours lie down, and think it was more closely related to the convoluted arrangements we put in place to retrieve Big.

That was amusing. L took her by bus, two trains and a taxi to Merry’s cousin’s house, where Merry was coincidentally going this weekend anyway to pick up a rabbit, then Merry brought her down to her house and I met them there for the final leg of the journey. Cut the driving down from 8 hours or more for me to just over 3, much more manageable, and I managed half an hour sitting in the sun outside a services reading a book too. Result!

Big was very pleased to be home. It was after 11 last night before they both calmed down and went to sleep, so I’m expecting some fallout later on today as the tiredness hits in.

And in the other news of the week, I sourced a two day java contract through a friend, although now that I’ve read the latest Dept of Health advice for pregnant women, I’m wondering whether I should risk it.

Honestly. I don’t quite see how I’m supposed to isolate myself and then a vulnerable baby for the duration of this pandemic, which we are being told could last 5 years. And I shouldn’t let my other children go anywhere where they might pick it up, so school is right out isn’t it? Just as well they’re home-educated really 😉

  1. glad Big is back home safely,We have alsorts of fluey type symptoms going on here at the moment. As per your situation with Tim, we have to presume that Lynz mom did actually have swine flu, so too did her sister and possibly her mom (Lynsey’s moms mom that is)
There are rumours going around here that the LA is talking about keeping schools closed for an addtional 4 weeks in sept. 11 weeks off here in total, they are alreay having 7 weeks this year.

  2. I must admit that I can’t see what point there is in keeping schools closed, surely kids will be exposed to it anyway – you simply can’t live life in isolation for a prolonged period of time, can you?

  3. It is amazing how much ‘blame’ the schools are getting for the spreading of the Swine flu. Those schools must be a minefield of germs! My kids have a friend who has had 2 kids in her class diagnosed with the Swine flu just this past Wednesday. Are they closing the school, or isolating the kids? No–that class is on their way to the Natural History Museum in London today! So I think there is no hiding from it. We’ll just have to hope for mild symptoms and hopefully a very dry heatwave which might kill off some of the germs.
