Art on a Friday

Friday evening is swimming club which makes for a long day for small people, so I usually try to keep it fairly low key activity wise. Today we fitted a lot in though, starting with some painting with Tigerboy before his siblings even got up. Smallest was slightly aggrieved he’d got to start without her, but recovered equanimity soon enough when there was glittery paint to be mixed 😉

Then we looked at the Usborne nature book for a while and talked about parts of flowers (and admired the  moving flick pictures on the corners).

Next, some work from the Painter’s Progress, for what I’m terming our year in art project. This is Smallest drawing a book from observation. She did the lettering really carefully and coloured using the pastels.

And after she was done, Tigerboy came tootling in to see what was going on, and had a go at the drawing himself. Recognisable shapes even using pastels.

All in all, I’m calling that a successful second step (I’ll bakctrack and fill in the colour wheel activity during the week).

As well as all that, I failed to get on Radio 2’s call in with Vanessa Feltz and some very prejudiced non experts. I did chat with someone on LBC though, who was having a much more balanced range of colours.

In the evening swimming – Tigerboy enjoys half an hour on the iPad while Smallest swims. Home for a late bedtime, and we read a Miles Kelly phonics workbook – Little Red Riding Hood. Smallest got into the sticker activity, but we only did the first page – hopefully we’ll continue with it tomorrow.

Story of a day. There was playing and magic schoolbus and wild kratts and mario maker, and family time and never ending duplo people all over the floor.
