another car load of stuff. 🙁
I don’t think of us as particularly materialistic (stop sniggering at the back there) yet the amount of stuff is phenomenal, granted a lot of it is books, or things I should have got rid of but haven’t, but even so. Today I bagged up another bag of rubbish from the dining room, retrieved the cookery books as Tim and Big are cooking me dinner tomorrow night (assuming that the momentary stomach issue I have is indeed momentary), brought a selection of books that might tempt Small to continue to practise his reading, and reboxed 5 large boxes of books into 11 small boxes of books after the large boxes gave way under the weight and cascaded all over the garage.
Sigh.
I also found more pics of Katrin, mainly pics of her with Scott when he was a baby. There’s a particularly poignant snap of her and Scott with Pater (I’m struggling with nicknames OK) and his father, who died the Easter before Small was born (day before Good Friday, now that was a fun holiday, not. And there isn’t a big supply of maternity funeral wear, so that made life more complicated too.) Each time I find these pics, it’s really bittersweet, I’m not really anywhere near acceptance, it’s only my terminology that’s changed if that makes any sense.
Yesterday was a lovely day. I took Big to Holmfirth to the open day of the Knitting and Crochet Guild. She had a great time – they had a set of square needles (Kollage Square Knitting Needles apparently) set up for ppl to try out, and she really liked them. She sat and knitted very competently while whispering answers to questions, honestly anyone who has seen her in full on strop wouldn’t recognise her when she goes into this little quiet shy routine. I find it quite infuriating, given how capable she is at times, but I bit my tongue and coped, and consequently we had a good afternoon. Oh, and they have a yarn mountain which they are selling off, £1 a cone, and 1p per gram of balled wool, so she bought three cones and a fluffy ball and has used the latter today to knit a shawl for her mermaid. I’m trying to ignore the fact that this is the mermaid that I crocheted a shrug for, obviously my shrug just doesn’t measure up to a fluffy shawl! 😐
We went on from there to see Bil and the two kids, it’s been a while since we’ve caught up as they’ve been on holiday to the states. All seemed as well as can be expected – Bil is managing to fit some work around school hours which has got to be good for him, really can’t see him just sitting at home waiting for the kids to come in, he’s always had jobs that involve hard physical labour and I think he’d go more than a bit stir crazy. We’ll be seeing them again next weekend as it’s K’s birthday, so we’re all meeting at a restaurant in their village for a meal.
After we’d done at the house we popped down to the cemetery – it was the first time I’ve been since the service. Big was a little nervous – not sure that we were allowed to be there, but she said it was alright because she knew someone there. I did check with her before we went down, last thing I want is to upset her about any of it, but I think it was OK in the event.
Hm. Where was I? I can see the next couple of weeks filling up and getting really busy – I’ve a night out with work on Tuesday, then there’s the meal on Saturday, kids have got a party Sunday, the following week we start parent workshops (assuming that we’re running them, we’ve only 7 takers atm) and the following weekend is the AGM for some montessori association or other and it’s at school. At least that means there’s no travelling.
In and amongst all of this, my next assignment is due on the 4th, and I’ve plans of work to sort out for all the children in the class. Spent a good couple of hours on one of the files last night, and wanted to do similarly tonight, but feeling really rough, so I think the best option is bed. Goodnight.
