Another half week races by

and we’ve spent at least part of it making friends 🙂

Music Weds, and there was a new family, with a boy about Small’s age. They sat down together and ever so solemnly discussed making friends, it was cute. And C, who has just moved to same town as us, made it just at the end of the session, with her girl around Big’s age, and boy around Small’s age, and they all hit it off beautifully.

We went to the country park and WFHelen took my kids for a very brisk walk while I sat in the car and fed the baby 🙂 Think I got the best of that bargain, it was a bit chilly to say the least! Arranged with C to bring her two round on Thurs afternoon, then beetled off to support group where the kids had a good time in the sensory room while I drank tea and fed the baby.

Thurs involved quick charge to town to get fruit and shoes. Odd combination I know, but needs must 😉 Big has her first pair of trainer type shoes, a huge improvement on the boots she’s survived the winter in. Size 3 1/2 now! And Small had also gone up a whole size, so he got sparkly trainers too. Called at the market stall on the way back where they had Annabel Karmel marshmallow sheep cake packs marked at 40p each or 3 for £1, then when Big asked for 3 he gave her the four that were shrinkwrapped together for £1. Bargain. (And yes, I know I ought to be able to just whip up cakes without box sets, but I can’t, so box sets it is until we build up confidence 😉 .)

Lovely afternoon visit with C and her kids (who I hope are going to need their own blog names, must ask C how she feels about online exposure!). Oddly, she and I have spent our lives missing each other – having lived or worked in the same towns but at different times. The same *small* towns. Quite spooky. And she has moved from Scotland where she knew another of my friends. It’s a small world, this one of home education.

Friday was baby massage day, after a deeply horrendous night, where soa didn’t go to sleep until 2 then had me up for both breasts every two hours. Growth spurt, right? So baby massage was hard work as obviously she wanted to feed through that too. Got home and did a bit more with Big on her election, then discussed cooking (she’s chosen a recipe from the book she got out of the library) then helped her cook pasta before her swimming club trial.

Right, swimming club. I had assumed that the trial would be a quick session demonstrating what she could or couldn’t do to a coach. Instead she was put into the pool with one of the regular groups and did the full half hour session with them. Not at all like a swimming lesson, no sitting on the side waiting around, they swam continuously, and she was very droopy by the time she came out! Still, if she wants to start she can go straight into improvers 4, next stop the squad, probably in about a term 😯 And this is a child who couldn’t swim this time last year. She’s showing a real gift for it now, if only I could get across to her how well she’s doing.

Sat with another parent whose child was having a trial – she had previously swum in the club and is only a few months younger than Big but was tried in improvers 2, then moved to 3. Still didn’t give Big any perspective on it. Nice chat with her mother, who, when we mentioned home education, talked about having to move her daughter to a different school due to bullying, and about a boy she knows who has been pulled out. Also mentioned that the LA were checking up on him, so I said about the various support groups, and she will pass the info on next time she bumps into the parents. Considering getting some little cards printed up with support numbers on – amazed how many ppl are interested in the facts around home ed these days. And I’ve not yet had a negative reaction in this town, apart from from the gp!

Right, baby is wailing, it’s feed time. Again.

  1. Yanno i had a negative reaction from my GP too. So negative i have not had an appointment with her for well over a year. I would rather move to a different surgery than hear what she has to say on the subject again.
