Now that Small is two, he’s obviously started reading my blog. How else can you explain him coming out with two or three new words yesterday during his party (and therefore in front of witnesses!) *and* deciding to cooperate with me teaching him some new signs? Tonight he even put a couple together and came up with ‘want more’ – why does this not surprise me? Sigh. I’m still going to contact the health visitor or someone tomorrow and try for an external assessment, but I think he may just be coming to this in his own good time, much as he did with walking. Still can’t wait to be able to have conversations with him though. 🙂
Lots of time in the garden today. Big came in and asked for the suntan lotion, good girl, as I was sitting inside wrapped in a jumper shivering. Yeuch. Feeling a bit better this evening, but still looking forward to bed.
We went to the local shopping centre and got some squared paper for some ideas I’ve got cooking, and Small got his own Thomas workbook as well, in the hope it will stop him scrawling on Big’s stuff. So hard when she puts so much effort in, and I know he is actually trying to help but he ruins stuff. 🙁 Big spent some of her money, after much agonising.
Actually, I could break from narrative there, and put out a plea for help. Does anyone know where I can get “Lil’ Handfuls” from? Toy shops I’ve tried so far don’t have them. She saw them in a service station on the way to Hesfes and I persuaded her not to buy them on the grounds that she might want money to spend during the week and we could get them on the way back if she didn’t spend anything there. Well, she didn’t spend anything there, but then I stopped at the wrong services on the way back, and they didn’t have them. Bad mummy 🙁 So I could get them online, but it will cost as much to send them as they cost themselves! So, anyone?
So anyway, back to the agonising. She is desperate for the above mentioned dolls, but settled on some odd mermaid in a shell thing, and bought it with her own money after I managed to persuade her that 1.99 is less that 2 pounds. More work on money methinks. 😉
So we’ve got lots planned for the rest of the week, blogging may be intermittent. Honest.

When Maddy was somewhere around 3, old enough to have seriously worried me anyway, i took her to see Fran’s speech therapist. At that point Maddy was almost completely non-verbal – i did know she COULD express herself to some extent but she simply didn’t. Life was a total nightmare with her. So we arrived at the SALTs room, with a load of new toys – and Maddy talked perfectly throughout the appointment. SALT, naturally, thought i was bonkers. Maddy then refused to utter a single word for a week afterwards. *rolls eyes*
I was thinking after last Monday when I said F didn’t talk……..he really just didn’t ,then he just did!
Like it was dormant, still verbal communication is not his forte now,as,dare I say it,it sems that lots of boys struggle!

Merry, I can quite see Small doing just same.
“Wowan” “I Like it!” “Mine” I think were the new ones?
*grin*
Titch spoke about a couple of words at christmas and I worried a little about it as Pip spoke her first sentence at 15 months (“daddy done’d a farty”- I wrote it down 😉 ). Now, at the end of May her vocab is quite incredible, along with a few french phrases. “NO” and “WHY” have retained their popularity but she has literally gone from slightly-anxiety-inducingly untalkative to stressfuly-communicative about everything, to anyone 🙂 . And it only started over the house move end of Jan. I did trapse her off to the HV and he was very reassuring, so it’s well worth it.
We’ve printed squared and other paper from here but I suppose if you’re buying it, it must be cheaper than printing, queen of the google that you are 😉
