hm, my blog appears to have disappeared under a welter of political links and news stories. Not quite sure how *that* happened.
So what have we been doing? Well, took Small for his slightly belated MMR this morning – he was ever so good. I think he understands rather more than he lets on – while there was a tantrum on the way into the nurse’s room, it was about leaving the toys behind, there was a short wail when the injection happened, but he’d stopped crying by the time he got back out to the toys. So I let him play for a bit, then we walked home through the dampness again.
He spent the entire day in odd wellies, which was a little annoying, but we couldn’t find the other half of the pair that fits on the way out in a hurry, and then he wouldn’t let me change them when we got back.
Big appears to be enjoying dictating her own education. Or being aware of dictating her own education, whichever. Although I’m beginning to feel like a walking cross between a dictionary and a thesaurus – what does extraordinary/urgent/sudden/smooth/sweet/rough/you name it mean, mummy? Ur…must facilitate her learning to read and then introduce her to dictionary.com and google 🙂 Or even just a dictionary, I’m sure we’ve got one around somewhere! She spent the morning watching class tv (“it’s primary history day! That’s like Dora day!” um, not quite….but she now knows lots more about egyptian history).
She made her own lunch, and we made tea together – our pizza bases are coming along a treat. And I can tell she’s been paying attention to the tv – “look, the flour in the bowl is shaped like a pyramid!” except that pyramids don’t have circular bases – this bowl has a circular base, see? “so what is this called?” um, thinks fast, wishes had shut up while behind….this is a cone. LOL
More telling time timetables at a slightly belated bath time – they belted back outside into the late sunshine after tea time, and I didn’t have the heart to drag them in too quickly!
What else? Some bizarre creatures, and we’ve finished another Usborne Farm book, The naughty sheep this time. I’m really enjoying that she’s started asking me if we can read, rather than me suggesting it to her. She’s getting rather better at it too – we’re down to spelling out one word or so a page (granted there is only one sentence per page that she reads 😉 ) and we have much less wailing and wriggling. Which is good, as wailing and wriggling annoys me a lot when it’s her that suggested sitting down to read! Oh and they spent some time together without me on the cbeebies website, which was a first, it usually requires refereeing if they are near a computer together.
I’ve nearly finished another crochet square, and I’ve actually been paid for the last two things I sold on ebay! Will wonders never cease…so all that is being packaged up to go in the post tomorrow. I chucked out a few cardboard boxes from the book storage that is supposedly our dining room, and discovered that it made a sizeable difference to the amount of light getting in there, and therefore the whole feel to the room. Now, if I could just shift a few hundred books…
Tim has almost finished clearing the back bedroom, so we’ve started discussing what sleeping arrangement is going to work best for the two children to share in there. If we put two separate beds in, there isn’t going to be any room for them to play, and I really want them to be able to play in there! So I’ve looked at a number of bunk and triple bed arrangements, but I’m a bit nervous of putting a ladder near Small, so I haven’t really made any decision there. Must scratch my head and come up with some solution to that.
And now I’m going to go work on some graphics. And study some java. Maybe do the washing up. Package up some ebay parcels. You know the sort of thing. Just as well there isn’t anything worth watching on tv.

And start making a big list somewhere on here of all the books in your dining room so we can see if we want to buy them or not. They’re not going to get up and walk out of there on their own you know 😉
LOL Jan. Popping in to say Hi Jax – I have been reading your newspaper too LOL xx
Sounds like a busy day Jax! What about one of those cabin beds with room underneath to play, but put a mattress under for Small to sleep on? The bed parts aren’t usually all that high, not compared to bunk beds. Or would they share a double bed together??
Ooh – list of books to peruse… now that sounds like a good idea. 🙂
We could do some book-listing this weekend 🙂 I want a chance to play with your scanner!
I was thinking, maybe futons for the bedroom? Very healthy to sleep on and they’d convert to chairs for the daytime, so you’d have your floorspace.
The elder two have these

and although I had the same reservation about the ladder/height issue its not too bad. DS3 can dangle off the end and drop to the floor without too much trouble and either they could then play under them or you could put a mattress on the floor for Small. Alternatively how about one of those beds with a roll out guest bed, you could just push Smalls bed away in the morning?
