with a return to funking on my part.

Started with the delivery of the final part of my Amazon order, Understanding English – Spelling for Key Stage 2 for Big. She glanced at it and discarded it, as they were still engrossed in the Spiderman set. Ah well. Spelling was on her list of wishes, so I’m sure she’ll return to it at some point.

Playing with spiderman took them up to lunchtime, and then afterwards we went to the park for more bike riding practise and running around and shouting. Small deigned to try a big swing, but he is not convinced. Tried to encourage him to do the leaning back, leaning forward thing, but he said he didn’t want to learn to swing like learning to do maths or something (??) so he went back into the safety swings. He’s going to have to move on at some point, he’s getting too heavy to lift in.

Back home, and Big had promised to play with Small some more, but conveniently forgot and they watched more tv (including horrible histories again) while I had a webchat, and then somehow time got away from us, and it was time to take her to Brownies before she was even changed. That resulted in wailing as she hadn’t had a snack, but I rushed her round there anyway, and she seemed perfectly happy when left.

Tim picked her up on the way back from the club, meaning that Small and I had a pleasant hour or so to ourselves without me having to rush him out to do pickup. He did some more of his English book – liked the section on Rhyming and plurals, although syllables seemed to be too complicated. He kept trying to count the letters instead, or broke the word up more than it should be. I probably didn’t explain it right – but I thought it best to move on and come back to it another time, especially as he seemed somewhat fragile today, and we had quite a few temper or waily incidents. He wails even louder and more dramatically than Big, which I know may sound difficult to believe 😉

Late tea and they looked at old piccies for a while before going to bed with their story. Took them ages to settle down, not helped by me telling them we’re going out to do exciting things tomorrow and then complicated further when I spotted him reading under his covers with a torch.

He wanted to know how I knew, Tim told him we’d both done it and been caught by our parents, which isn’t true, I don’t think my parents ever caught me at it. I don’t think they think of reading as something to be done round the clock like we do 😉

And now, as we’ve an exciting day tomorrow, I should go to bed. Will save my partially completed letter to my MP, and shelve any further intentions to complain to newspapers about biased and inaccurate reporting. Bit of a never ending job really, as there is so much complete nonsense going round about the home education review after all. I did sign the new petition on the number 10 website, it’s over here. Wish it didn’t say homeschooling in the title though.

  1. If it helps, Jess cracked syllables by putting her hand on the underside of her chin and feeling her chin dip as she said the word.
    ROFL at the torch thing.

  2. Yes, I was going to say we’ve explained syllables by how many times your chin goes down!
    Enjoy your exciting day 🙂
