A Monday feeling Tuesday.

Do you ever have a day when you are convinced it’s a different day?

Today should have involved a college interview, but that got cancelled yesterday (not enough interest to run the course, back to the drawing board 🙁 ) but without enough time for me to get my head around a different shape to the day. And then the builders arrived, to deal with next door’s guttering. Except to deal with next door’s guttering, they had to take apart the cover over the back passage outside the kitchen door, so they spent the morning in our garden.

This was not conducive to, well, anything.

And if I wasn’t going out, I was determined to be productive. I was going to do writing, and blogging, and catching up with email and Important Things.

Instead, I managed stressed out children (Men! Outside the window! Noise! Drills! Panic!) and completely failed to get anything much done.

Until I tweeted:

And do you know what happened after that?

Two people clicked on the Kofi link and bought me Kofi. Two people thought good things towards me, and sent me a tip for a coffee.

Do you know what? That completely turned my day around. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but I was deep in the midst of nothing I do is worth anything, I’ve got a neglected blog no one reads, my instagram is flatlining, my redbubble is untouched for months, I’ve not got any posts on my patreon and aargh, job interview later this week.

But two people did a massively kind thing, and lifted me out of the complete mess I was diving into, and I managed to haul myself out of the quicksand.

I packaged up the ebay item that’s sold, wrestled with the system and printed a label for it. Found the book I wanted to return to the works, headed into town and posted the ebay thing, and swapped the book at the works for a book on lettering, so that I can try that to see if I can make anything redbubble-able from that. Oh, and dropped off an ancient suit at a charity shop, and before I went listed some educational books on facebook. Teeny tiny steps, but steps nevertheless.

And then I went to the beach and built pebble cairns at the sea line as the tide came in. Which resulted in me getting my feet wet 😉

I came home with a smile on my face, via the yellow sticker shelves of Tesco and the Coop (who were selling off sausages for 50p a pack, bonus!)

And then I made dinner, to paraphrase an ancient meme that will mean nothing to most of you but makes me smile again. And it was good.

I don’t know who is reading, if anyone is still reading. This is how I used to blog, by opening a browser and emptying my brain. I miss it, I’m fed up of trying to be shiny and meaningful and worthwhile and worthy of payment. I need to earn a living (who doesn’t?) but I’m never going to balance that well with this place I don’t think.

But I’ll keep trying.

There’s a link – it’s basically a micro payments system that allows people to donate the price of a coffee to folk (base price is set at $3/ £3 I think.) And thank you 🙂

  2. I’m reading! And I feel totally the same and completely get where you’re coming from. I find pushing my books ‘out there’ very hard and soul destroying! So to have a personal comment makes the day. So here’s mine to you: may you have a great day and make many more steps forward. Or just relax and enjoy it! All the best.
