Today there was a fallout in the house. (Actually, there are often fallouts in the house, it’s to do with having children :/ ) Today, though some technology fell out with some other technology – for reasons best known only to itself, the router fell out with my netbook, and denied it access to the internet, by refusing to give it an IP address.

You could almost hear the brat of a thing sitting in the bedroom singing ner ner ner ner, you’re not playing, and my poor netbook going off into a tantrum of blue screens in disgust.

It was not pretty.

And consequently, I’ve had a day mainly offline. This is probably not a bad thing. I’ve read another two books. Read books to the baby. Spent hours in the leisure centre with a sleeping baby on my knee while Big did her rookie lifeguard test. Hardly been seen on twitter or fb or any of the forums I habitually frequent, and while to some extent it feels like someone amputated my right arm, in other ways, it was good to get a bit of perspective.

Who am I trying to kid? I *hated* it. I miss tweeting with ppl. I miss a quick moan, or a yay, or having the chance to continue half a dozen conversations over the baby’s head as she’s feeding. I really miss taking you all with me to the leisure centre, and I’m going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade my phone to something that can do that kind of stuff. I just can’t quite face the added cost 🙁

But in and amongst the anguish, the day happened anyway. The baby said several words for the first time – we had beep-beep as Big read All Join In to her, and peacock while she read The Feather. Small had his first session at cubs and really enjoyed it, and didn’t even mind when no one picked him up because the stand in cub leader had told us the wrong time *headdesk*. Big had a drs appt and was advised to take up cycling to strengthen her quadriceps (I think) to deal with the pain in her knees – he said basically her bones are growing faster than her muscles are, and as she’s also slightly hypermobile (can’t think *who* she takes after there) she needs to do some work to strengthen and stabilise her joints. Which should be the kick in the pants I need to sort out the whole on a bike business.

Might help me too. I’m off running atm as my hip hurts. I don’t know whether I’ve overdone it going up to the 3.5 mile distance, or whether the new routes with slopes in are stressing it too much, or whether it’s none of the above and just one of those things, but I don’t want to aggravate it by doing too much. At least cycling would keep me fit – I could even cycle to the leisure centre, swim, and cycle back again.

Hm.

So a day of many little positives strewn around the negatives. Did I say an odd day? Just the way it goes I guess.
