Read 52 Pure and an apology.

We’ve been away this week, which meant some good reading time, and I’ve polished off my third book, Pure by Juliana Baggott. I found it a bit slow to get into, in that there seemed to be an awful lot of set up before the story really got going, and I wasn’t sure I was enjoying it at all. Then I discovered that I really didn’t want to put it down, so I guess I was.

It’s held up in comparison to the Hunger Games, I think it’s rather bleaker than that, and I’m not sure that Big will like it much though she adored HG. It’s towards the horror side of SF I think, and the challenging concepts of character development and philosophical issues crop up much later, almost like after thoughts. Nevertheless, I’m really annoyed with myself that I’m not sure where I’ve put the sequel so I can’t crack on with it tonight 🙁

And the apology. I’ve come home with a clutch of not quite right children from several days away with nowhere near the amount of Internet I was expecting so I don’t have the giveaway from last week sorted out, or one ready to put up today. I hope you’ll forgive me and pop back tomorrow to see what goodies I’ve got for you this week.

Do let me know how you’re doing, and feel free to find us on G+ where we’ve got a great community building. (If you need an invite, leave me a comment and I’ll sort it out tomorrow too! )
