I’ve gathered together a few links to creative competitions for children (and occasionally adults) that are running at the moment. If you’ve any you’d like adding just let me know!
Win the chance to perform your own poem with Steven Camden! | Children’s books | The Guardian closing date 27th July open to children age 13-18.
Betjeman Prize. Please send in your poems on the theme of ‘place’ by 31st July 2015, by email using the form below (click here), or by post to Betjeman Poetry Prize, PO Box 5411, Hove BN52 9AR. You can write in any style, and to any length. Your poem does not need to rhyme. (There’s a note on this one that says school children nominate their school, home educated children nominate their library. Can’t see anything about age limits, but it says students repeatedly.)
Guardian young critics review competition. All you need to do is submit a review (maximum 500 words) on one of the books longlisted for the Guardian children’s fiction prize 2015. The prize for 10 individual winners is a complete set of the longlisted books plus book tokens and an invitation to the Guardian children’s fiction award party on 19 November 2015. The group winners will get 10 copies of each of the longlisted books, the chance to come to Guardian’s education centre and make their own newspaper and up to 20 members of the winning book group are invited to the awards party. Home ed groups can enter the group section of the competition, and the closing date is 30 October 2015.
Dreamsnatcher – draw a wildcat
Competition rules:
draw a wildcat (you can use pencils, pens, paints – anything you want!), name it and then write a few sentences describing it. Closing date for entries: 25th September 2015.
Prize: a catapult and a signed copy of The Dreamsnatcher. I believe this is open to adults too 🙂
Monthly design competition for 13 and under to win with Lottie dolls. Either download a template or draw an outfit freestyle and send it in by email, and you could win your own Lottie doll.
Couple of fab colouring competitions with Pictura one for adults and one for children. Closing date 3rd August.
Win your kids dream holiday with HomeAwayUK This is a really creative one for 4-12 year olds. Blurb: Get your little one to create their dream holiday home – it could be a drawing of a treehouse, a painting of a sailing boat or even a castle made from toy bricks! The possibilities are endless… And then you take a picture and share on social media. One caveat, you’ve got to keep the creation, so if it’s lego, you’ll want to have somewhere safe to store 😉 Check the details at the link.
