Bit of a washout really, with the orthodontic next stage.

The drought is at least temporarily over in Suffolk. It’s done a lot of raining here today, which is a good thing – we’ve been missing it. It also means I haven’t had to carry the grey water out to water my sad and sorry looking garden, which is very good.

Particularly good as I really am not up to carrying buckets and (baby) baths of water about today. The bug that felled Big over the weekend has spread throughout the house, and both Small and I have spent the day feeling grim. From the look of Tim tonight he’s just a day behind ๐Ÿ™ Fortunately Big is bouncing back, just in time to be felled by her next orthodontic appointment.

Braces are tough, I don’t think there’s any denying that. She has been a star with them – particularly when she got caught by surprise at the ordinary dentist, where they applied a particularly horrid fluoride polish that she had to keep on for a couple of hours, despite the horrid taste and drooling. It’s to be applied every three months apparently, so as well as going to the orthodontist every 6 weeks to two months, we’ve to go to the other side of town every three months for the polish to be applied. I’m really not sure why the appointments can’t be combined in some way – it can’t be particularly cost effective for the dentists, and it certainly isn’t for us ๐Ÿ™

Today was her second adjustment day. Another new wire and bands, and today she was given springs. These go across specific places in her mouth where they are trying to make space, presumably almost pushing her teeth apart, as opposed to pulling like the wire itself. They are slightly bulkier, though not drastically so, and the orthodontist did say that they could make her teeth more sensitive again. I think she’d agree with that – she had a difficult few hours around lunchtime.

Not helped by me forgetting to have soup in for her to eat, going out to buy some and then forgetting the soft bread and nurofen for children I’d gone out for too. Bad mummy. In my defense I had an awful night with Smallest last night, and like I said, I’m really not feeling at all well. Which is why, after lunch, I retired with Smallest for a nap, fed her to sleep and got about three hours sleep.

It helped, though I’m still not well. And when I’m done here, I’m clearing off to bed again. The washing that didn’t get hung out (Small’s bed clothes, fill in the gaps yourself ๐Ÿ™ ) will have to go out tomorrow, though we did at least manage to mostly process his quilt through. It’s a down comforter apparently, 50 years old. I was afraid to wash it, but a bit of research discovered it’s rather more washable than modern synthetic quilts, so wash it we did.

And that was my day. Washing in the rain, trip to the orthodontist and sleep. Here’s hoping for a smoother day tomorrow.
