I seem to have a whole stock of unfinished tomes about at the moment. They’re stacking up. Sometimes it’s just that I find myself in a different place to the book I was reading. Sometimes I get interrupted. Yesterday I got approved for a title I’ve been desperate to read, so I got stuck in, neglecting the book I was supposed to be lavishing attention on.
I think I might have to be strict with myself. Finish a half read book for each new title I want to pick up. (Do they count as read this year or does that depend on how much I read before they were abandoned? Aargh.)
I’m particularly bad at finishing non fiction. They rarely have that draw you to the end thing going on – there’s no breathless climax. So it’s very easy to just put them down for a bit while you read something more exciting, and then before you know it, there’s 6 other books on top (what, just me?) and it’s really hard to go back.
The current rogues gallery.
I finished and reviewed Nerdy, Shy and Socially unacceptable (my most popular book review last year I think) but Shorts defeated me. I love it. But its format of short excerpts that need to be digested and mused upon makes it a very appealing candidate to be put to one side. I will return to it though.
Then there’s the Mindfulness book that I was going to focus on this month. Which I can’t find. Oops. (I can’t find a picture of it either, and I’m sure I had one.)
I’m currently reading (as in carrying around in my bag) Wild: A Journey from Lost to Found. (My copy doesn’t have that snazzy film tie in cover, although I am trying to read it for review before the film is released next week!)
It’s good, but also quite a tough read so far. Emotional. I think it’s going to be well worth it.
